CITY OF HENDERSON SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES December 21, 2016 I. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Dan Hyde called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., at 240 Water Street, Henderson City Hall, in the Council Chambers Conference Room. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Monica Rivera, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the meeting had been posted in accordance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the agenda three working days prior to the meeting at City Hall, Multigenerational Center, Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, and Fire Station No. 86. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no comments presented by the public. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA (Motion) Mr. Berman introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Hyde declared the motion carried. V. NEW BUSINESS NB-1 MINUTES SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING NOVEMBER 16, 2016 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of November 16, 2016. (Motion) Ms. McEvers introduced a motion to adopt the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of November 16, 2016, as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Hyde declared the motion carried. NB-2 SENIOR INFORMATIONAL FORUM ON GUARDIANSHIP PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members will discuss and possibly vote on details for a senior informational forum on guardianship. Rana Goodman and Dan Roberts, Vegas Voice, gave a brief presentation on guardianships and the experiences they have personally had concerning guardianships. Chairman Hyde invited Mr. Roberts and Ms. Goodman back next month to give a more detailed presentation. The Commission had a discussion regarding a forum on guardianships. It was determined that the date of the forum will be determined at the next meeting. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Page 3 December 21, 2016 – Minutes NB-3 HENDERSON SENIORS' AUXILIARY PRESENTATION PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION A member of the Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary will give their monthly report on activities of the organization. This item was heard immediately following approval of the minutes. Sue Wojoik, Henderson Seniors’ Auxiliary, gave an update on the monthly activities of the Henderson Seniors Auxiliary. Discussion ensued regarding the homeless event that was held by the Auxiliary and ways to increase participation. It was determined that this item will be placed on a future agenda. NB-4 STAFF REPORT PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Recreation Services Manager, Corey Clark, will give an update on the City's senior services. Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, gave a summary of the services provided to Henderson seniors. VI. CHAIRMAN/MEMBER COMMENTS There were no comments presented. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on January 18, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room of City Hall. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT David Karell said gave a summary of upcoming dates and locations where he will be making Medicare presentations. Liz Baldizan commented that she attended one of Mr. Karel’s presentations and stated that important information was presented and she was glad that the Commission is associated with this organization. Mr. Berman reiterated that other companies should be given the same opportunity that has been extended to Mr. Karel. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Page 4 December 21, 2016 – Minutes IX.
