CITY OF HENDERSON SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 14, 2022 I. CALL TO ORDER Chair Steve Boyce called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting to order at 4:00 p.m., at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 South Racetrack Road, Henderson, Nevada 89015. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Karie Teruya, Executive Administrative Assistant, confirmed the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting had been noticed in compliance with the Open Meeting Law. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (Motion) Member Woods introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Boyce declared the motion carried. V. NEW BUSINESS 1 MINUTES SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING AUGUST 10, 2022 PARKS AND RECREATION Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of August 10, 2022. (Motion) Member Gerali introduced a motion to adopt the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of August 10, 2022, as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Boyce declared the motion carried. 2 ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members will elect a Chairperson for the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. Chair Boyce opened the floor for Chair nominations and nominated Joanna Gerali for the Office of Chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. There being no additional nominations, Chair Boyce declared Vice Chair nominations closed. (Motion) Chair Boyce introduced a motion to elect Joanna Gerali for the Office of Chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chair Boyce opened the floor for Vice Chair nominations. Joanna Gerali nominated Fran Smith for the Office of Vice Chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. There being no additional nominations, Acting Chair Boyce declared Vice Chair nominations closed. (Motion) Member Gerali introduced a motion to elect Fran Smith for the Office of Vice Chair of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chair Boyce declared the motion carried. 4 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM SEPTEMBER 15, 2022, TO OCTOBER 11, 2022. PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members will discuss and approve whether Commissioners may officially attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events as a representative of the Commission for September 15, 2022, to October 11, 2022. Corey Clark, Parks and Recreations Manager, presented a summary of this item and stated the Heritage Harvest Festival will be held on October 8, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Park Senior Facility. Mr. Clark said because this is typically a well-attended event, staff could set up a booth for the Commissioners to network with constituents and raise awareness of the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission (SCAC) during the festival. A brief discussion ensued regarding the types of correspondence that could be handed out from the booth by the Commissioners. Mr. Clark said staff would provide a tri-fold flyer regarding the SCAC, and he said he will work on updating a survey that could be a useful tool as well. Responding to an inquiry from Member Smith regarding the 2022 AARP Livable Communities Workshop: Housing for People of All Ages, Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, stated it is a free virtual event that will take place on September 21 – 22, 2022. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting Page 4 of 5 Wednesday, September 14, 2022 – Minutes (Motion) Member Smith introduced a motion for City staff to request a booth and for the SCAC to support Commissioners Joanna Gerali and Audrey Woods to attend the Heritage Harvest Festival, which will be held on October 8, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; and to accept the calendar of events, as presented, supporting the interest of any Commissioners to attend any of the upcoming events from September 15, 2022, to October 11, 2022. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chair Boyce declared the motion carried. 5 SENIOR AUXILIARY PRESENTATION PARKS AND RECREATION Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, will give a report on the activities of the organization. Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, was not present; therefore, this item was not heard. 6 STAFF REPORT PARKS AND RECREATION Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, will give an update on recent events at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center. Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, stated the City of Henderson is transitioning to online versions of the Henderson Happenings publication; however, printed versions will remain to be available at the front desks of the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center. 7 HENDERSON AGE FRIENDLY ACTION PLAN UPDATE PARKS AND RECREATION Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II from the City of Henderson Community Development Department, will present on the Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan Update. Discussion will revolve around the following AARP Domains of Livability: Communication and Information. Commissioners will review the goals of the current Plan to determine which ones should be closed out, which ones should continue, and if any new goals should be added as part of the Henderson Age Friendly Plan Update. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting Page 5 of 5 Wednesday, September 14, 2022 – Minutes Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, presented a summary of this item and led the discussion to assist the Commissioners to determine if any goals in the current AARP Domains of Livability: Communication and Information should be closed out, continued, and/or added as part of the Henderson Age Friendly Plan Update. Mr. Rodriguez stated a summary of this discussion regarding the AARP Domains of Livability: Communication and Information will be added to the backup documents of next month’s Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan Update agenda item. VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS Acting Chair Boyce stated the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Aging Wellness, The Active 50+ Expo, which was held on August 13, 2022, at Red Rock Resort, Casino & Spa was a well-attended event. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting was set for Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments presented. IX.
