CITY OF HENDERSON SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, October 12, 2022 I. CALL TO ORDER Chair Joann Gerali called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting to order at 4:01 p.m., at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 South Racetrack Road, Henderson, Nevada 89015. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting had been noticed in compliance with the Nevada Open Meeting Law. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments presented. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action) (Motion) Member Woods introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as presented. NEW BUSINESS 1 MINUTES SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING SEPTEMBER 14, 2022 PARKS AND RECREATION Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of September 14, 2022. (Motion) Member Smith introduced a motion to adopt the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of September 14, 2022, as presented. The roll call vote favoring passage was: Those voting aye:.Chair Gerali, Jordan Flake, Patricia Landaker,, Delwin Potter, Roop Raich, Fran Smith, and Audrey Woods. Those voting nay: None. Those absent: Judy Belanger, Ed O’Neil, and Steve Boyce. Those abstaining: Richard Berman. Chair Gerali declared the motion carried. 2 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM OCTOBER 13, 2022, TO NOVEMBER 8, 2022. PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members will discuss and approve whether Commissioners may officially attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events as a representative of the Commission for October 13, 2022, to November 8, 2022. (Motion) Member Smith introduced a motion to accept the calendar of events as presented, supporting the interest of any Commissioners to attend any of these events. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chair Gerali declared the motion carried. 3 SENIOR AUXILIARY PRESENTATION PARKS AND RECREATION Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, will give a report on the activities of the organization. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting Page 3 of 4 Wednesday, October 12, 2022 - Draft Minutes Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, presented a summary of this item. She reviewed the newsletter and stated the bake sale would be October 27, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Ms. Rauenbeulher spoke on the success of the Heritage Harvest Fest. She stated that ice cream sales for the summer are over and thanked TRU Physical Therapy and Henderson Hospital for sponsoring. Ms. Rauenbeulher reviewed the upcoming events at the Downtown Senior Center and said there would be no newsletter next month. Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, spoke regarding the open positions available at the Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary. 4 STAFF REPORT PARKS AND RECREATION Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, will give an update on recent events at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center. Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, reported on the Heritage Harvest Festival success as well as challenges they will work to counteract for next year’s event. Mr. Clark stated there would be a Veterans event on November 12, 2022 at the Heritage Park Senior Center with special guest retired Judge Mark Stevens. Mr. Clark reviewed the success of having TRU Physical Therapy within the Heritage Park Senior Center. Responding to an announcement from Mr. Clark that Susan Bobby, Recreation Services Supervisor, would be retiring, Member Landaker spoke complimenting Ms. Bobby’s work. 5 HENDERSON AGE FRIENDLY ACTION PLAN UPDATE PARKS AND RECREATION Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II from the City of Henderson Community Development Department, will present on the Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan Update. Discussion will revolve around the following AARP Domain of Livability: Housing. Commissioners will review the goals of the current Plan to determine which ones should be closed out, which ones should continue, and if any new goals should be added as part of the Henderson Age Friendly Plan Update. Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting Page 4 of 4 Wednesday, October 12, 2022 - Draft Minutes Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, presented a summary of this item and led the discussion to assist the Commissioners to determine if any goals in the current AARP Domains of Livability: Housing, should be closed out, continued, and/or added as part of the Henderson Age Friendly Plan Update. Mr. Rodriguez stated a summary of this discussion regarding the AARP Domains of Livability: Housing will be added to the backup documents of next month’s Henderson Age Friendly Action Plan Update agenda item. VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS Member Raich gave an introduction and spoke on his work history as a biochemist and membership on several nutrition boards. Member Woods stated the Heritage Harvest Festival was very well run and the booth was successful. Member Landaker stated she is attending the USC school of Gerontology. She stated she recently attended a conference by the American Society on Aging, and she has been asked to present as a speaker for the next conference. Chair Gerali thanked Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, for his work and contributions to the commission. She also recounted a compliment from an attendee of the Harvest Festival who stated the programs and activities at the Heritage Park Senior Center saved her life. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting was set for Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT Jonathan Rodriguez, Planner II, provided a flyer, which was added to the backup materials after the meeting, regarding the Student-Led Henderson Farmers Market which will be held October 27, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Proctor Judicial Park.
