Wednesday, December 11, 2024
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Joanna Gerali called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meeting to
order at 3:00 p.m., at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 South Racetrack
Road, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission meeting had been noticed in compliance with the Nevada
Open Meeting Law.

Commissioner Roop Raich introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as
presented.

(Motion)
Commissioner Anita Gant introduced a motion to approve the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of November 13, 2024.
(Vote)
The vote favoring passage was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.

TARYN SHARP
CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS FOR HENDERSON SENIORS
PARKS AND RECREATION
Taryn Sharp, Mrs. Henderson USOA, presented on cybersecurity awareness for
Henderson seniors, and highlighted the following:
Recognizing the different types of cybersecurity threats.
Tips for protecting yourself to avoid scams.
Reporting cybercrime.
A discussion ensued regarding barriers to reporting cybercrime and the need for
cybersecurity and technical support training for seniors.
3 NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARKS ASSOCIATION PROGRAM
HIGHLIGHTS AND CONFERENCE REPORT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Corey Clark, Parks and Recreation Superintendent, presented highlights of
Henderson's participation in the National Recreation and Parks Association and
the 2024 Annual Conference, including keynote speakers, networking
opportunities, and facility tours.
A brief discussion ensued regarding strategic planning for Henderson’s Parks
and Recreation Department and current participation rates.

4 SENIOR AUXILIARY PRESENTATION
PARKS AND RECREATION
Jolaine Farage, Henderson Senior Auxiliary, gave a report on the activities of
the organization, including the following:
Grant funding receiving for fruits and vegetables program.
Bake Sale on December 12, 2024.
Christmas tree donation and raffle.
Donation to Naughty or Nice Gala.
Upcoming meet and greet for new members.
In partnership talks with a local rehabilitation and long-term care facility.
5 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY
COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM
DECEMBER 12, 2024, TO JANUARY 7, 2025.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Commissioner Audrey Woods requested the Heritage Park Senior Facility
Holiday Luncheon on December 18, 2024, be added to upcoming events list.
(Motion)
Commissioner Audrey Woods moved to approve the participation and
attendance in upcoming community programs or events as a representative of
the Commission for December 12, 2024, to January 7, 2025, with the addition of
the Heritage Park Senior Facility Holiday Luncheon on December 18, 2024.
(Vote)
The vote favoring passage was unanimous. Chair Joanna Gerali declared the
motion carried.
6 STAFF REPORT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Danielle Norris, Parks and Recreation Manager gave an update on recent and
upcoming events at the Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior
Center, including the following:
Encanto Performance, Formula 1 Watch Party, Holiday Tree Lighting,
and Winterfest.
Upcoming Naughty or Nice Gala.
Meals on Wheel Angel Tree Program.

VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS
Commissioner Alan Gerstner stated he has a conflict in February and offered to
assist the Commissioners with cybersecurity and technical support training.
Chair Joanna Gerali stated there will be an updated Commissioner roster out
shortly.
Commissioner Anita Gant stated she is staying busy this holiday season.
Commissioner Audrey Woods wished everyone happy holidays.
Commissioner Delwin Potter suggested phone and computer training be offered
to the community.
Commissioner Ed Long clarified the updated roster is available now.
Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, reminded the Commission of Open
Meeting Law requirements.
Commissioner David Tulanian stated the Thanksgiving meal was great.
Chair Joanna Gerali stated she is excited for upcoming discussion topics in
2025.
VII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.

There were no public comments.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chair Joanna Gerali adjourned the
meeting at 4:05 p.m.

limited to three (3) minutes and spokespersons for a group will be limited to ten (10) minutes
at the discretion of the Chairman.
The Chairman reserves the right to curtail abusive, offensive, inflammatory or repetitive
comments that disrupt, disturb or otherwise impede the orderly conduct of the meeting. See
NRS 241.030(4)(a). Examples of disruptive conduct include, without limitation, yelling,
stamping of feet, whistles, applause, heckling, name calling, use of profanity, personal
attacks, physical intimidation, threatening use of physical force, assault, battery, or any other
acts intended to impede the meeting or infringe on the rights of the board and/or committee
members, City staff, or meeting participants.
