CITY OF HERREID, SOUTH DAKOTA
SPECIAL MEETING
March 18, 2024
The Herreid City Council was called to order by council President, Adrienne
Dupper on the above date at 7:38pm at the Herreid City Hall. The following
members were present: Adrienne Dupper, Kim Rossow, Bob Rossow, Brady
Vander Vorst, Lacy Fuehrer, and Paul Weisbeck with Mayor Gary Weismantel
arriving at 7:45pm. Also present were Keith Hall, Finance Officer; Brett Van Vugt,
Maintenance.
Motion was made by Weisbeck, seconded by K. Rossow to approve the agenda.
All members voted aye; motion carried.
Public Comments: Heard that several stray cats from behind the café have been
relocated and there are plans to have several more in the area either relocated or
spayed.
Old Business:
Mayor Weismantel resumed as moderator upon his 7:45pm arrival.
Surplus Items– Held the final discussion on surplus items that will be listed on the
city Facebook page and the city website. The bid opening will take place as
planned at the regular council meeting on Aprill 8th.
Community Center Painting– Held discussion on accepting the proposal from John
Thorson of Dakota One Coating for the project of repainting the Herreid
Community Center. There were four proposals; they included the exterior for
$10,000, the interior for $8,000, the floors for $10,000 if done separately. The
fourth proposal included all 3 phases for a total of $24,000 which would be a
$4,000 savings. Learned that there are organizations in Herreid that have stated
that they will make donations toward the project if the council decides to proceed.
Following discussion, the motion was made by K. Rossow and seconded by B.
Rossow to accept the fourth proposal for all three phases for $24,000. All members
voted aye; motion carried. The council will be in contact with Thorson to confirm
when the project will begin.
New Business:
Payloader– Heard that the payloader windshield and one side mirror had been
damaged during recent snow removal. The damage would require replacing the
windshield and the one side mirror. Motion was made by Dupper, seconded by
Weisbeck to approve repairs which are estimated to cost between $1,300 and
$1,800. All members voted aye; motion carried.
Tennis Court Net – Heard that a replacement net for the tennis court had been
ordered.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is will be Monday, April 8, 2024 at 6:30pm.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:36pm
