City of Hobart Board of Park Commissioners Minutes September 8th, 2014 Call to Order: Mr. Ehrhardt called the meeting to order at 5pm, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The following Commissioners were present: Mr. Ehrhardt, Mr. Spain, and Mrs. Sills, and Mrs. Liss. Also present were the Park Superintendent Mr. Mitchell, and Park Board Secretary Julie Mandon. Approval of Agenda: Mrs. Sills made a motion to approve the agenda as presented, seconded by Mr. Spain. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Approval of Minutes: Mr. Spain motions to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Mrs. Liss. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Approval of Register of Claims: Mrs. Sills questioned why there are so many bills to Indiana Water and Mr. Mitchell explained that each bill is for separate metered locations. Mrs. Sills made a motion to accept the register of claims as presented including the late addition of the printer, seconded by Mrs. Liss. All aye, motion carried. (4-0) Correspondence: Ms. Mandon presented a card received from Mr. Joel Edigington thanking the Parks Department for hosting the Dam Cardboard Regatta. He was the oldest participant and loved it. He said that he cannot wait until next year to do it again. Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Mitchell stated that the Lakefront Festival was a success with new vendors, the fireworks and a bigger kid’s area. The Model Boat Race finished up yesterday (the 7th). There were a few less boaters this year but there were several volunteers on hand to help with the event. The water level was high due to the high amount of rain in the previous days. The Brewfest is the next event with 25 breweries and 1 wine vendor. The 54 Main Bistro is in charge of the VIP food. Mrs. Liss asked about the ticket sales and Mr. Mitchell said that they are coming along very nicely. Mr. Mitchell stated that it is slowing down now that it is fall. There are 3 upcoming projects for the parks department. The sled hill at Veterans Park is one of them. Councilman Herzog was able to get Albanese to donate their topsoil but we will have to pay for the transport. The Pennsy Park Oak Savannah Trail will be getting protective fencing and bollards for the bike trail. Parks will be adding a dog park at Fred Rose Lakeshore Park. It is frequently used currently as a dog walking area already. Mrs. Liss stated that she looked for it but could not find it. There are great views and there currently is water for a drinking fountain and a parking lot. It is a quiet area and it will not disturb the residents in that neighborhood. Mr. Mitchell stated that he has done research on the rules and charges other communities have in place. There will be a maintenance fee for doggie bags, water, electric and benches. Mrs. Sills questioned whether or not the boaters pay a fee to enter the races. Mr. Mitchell said they do but as a city we do not see any of that money. It goes to the club for prizes. Mrs. Sills said that she talked to several boaters this past weekend and they said that they love it here and love how they are treated. Mr. Mitchell agreed and said that they boaters have said it is the best venue they race at. Plan Commission Report: Mr. Spain stated that he was unable to attend the last meeting so there was nothing to report. Council Report: Mr. Maggio was not in attendance. School Board Report: Mr. Rogers was not in attendance. Old Business: Nothing to report. New Business: Nothing to report. Announcements: Mrs. Liss stated that she recently took out her sailboat on Lake George. It was a great experience. Mr. Mitchell also said he was on Lake George but in the kayaks. Adjournment: Mr. Spain made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mrs. Sills. All aye, motion carried.
