the printer, seconded by Mrs. Liss. All aye, motion carried. (4-0)
Correspondence: Ms. Mandon presented a card received from Mr. Joel Edigington thanking
the Parks Department for hosting the Dam Cardboard Regatta. He was the oldest participant
and loved it. He said that he cannot wait until next year to do it again.
Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Mitchell stated that the Lakefront Festival was a success with
new vendors, the fireworks and a bigger kid’s area. The Model Boat Race finished up yesterday
(the 7th). There were a few less boaters this year but there were several volunteers on hand to
help with the event. The water level was high due to the high amount of rain in the previous
days. The Brewfest is the next event with 25 breweries and 1 wine vendor. The 54 Main Bistro is
in charge of the VIP food. Mrs. Liss asked about the ticket sales and Mr. Mitchell said that they
are coming along very nicely. Mr. Mitchell stated that it is slowing down now that it is fall.
There are 3 upcoming projects for the parks department. The sled hill at Veterans Park is one of
them. Councilman Herzog was able to get Albanese to donate their topsoil but we will have to
pay for the transport. The Pennsy Park Oak Savannah Trail will be getting protective fencing
and bollards for the bike trail. Parks will be adding a dog park at Fred Rose Lakeshore Park. It
is frequently used currently as a dog walking area already. Mrs. Liss stated that she looked for it
but could not find it. There are great views and there currently is water for a drinking fountain
and a parking lot. It is a quiet area and it will not disturb the residents in that neighborhood.
Mr. Mitchell stated that he has done research on the rules and charges other communities have
in place. There will be a maintenance fee for doggie bags, water, electric and benches. Mrs. Sills
questioned whether or not the boaters pay a fee to enter the races. Mr. Mitchell said they do but
as a city we do not see any of that money. It goes to the club for prizes. Mrs. Sills said that she
talked to several boaters this past weekend and they said that they love it here and love how they
are treated. Mr. Mitchell agreed and said that they boaters have said it is the best venue they
race at.
