MINUTES HOT SPRINGS ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE April 12, 2022 12:00 PM 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1. Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dale Blackwelder, Nan Cameron, June Simmons, Kara Gunter and Eli Vega. Absent: JoAnn Mangione and Alix Stafford Staff: Anthony Whittington, Kathleen Fason. 2. Approval of the Agenda Nan made a motion to approve the April 12, 2022 agenda. Eli seconded. Motion passed. 3. Approval of the Minutes Nan made a motion to approve the March 8, 2021 minutes. Kara seconded. Motion passed. 4. Introduction of Guests 5. BUSINESS: A. David F. Watkins Memorial Park Mural Project: Wall has been installed. Workshop is set for May 5th during the Arts in the Park Festival. B. AntEater Installation Update: The newest sculpture in the city’s collection will be installed in the Tranquility Garden next week. It will be placed on a 4’ tall plinth. C. Tranquility Garden Update: Several issues are still being worked out. Lettering and concrete. D. Re-address the Call for Artists and Artist Registry: AAC duties, as per City Code 2-8-33.2, do not state that they are responsible for purchasing art for the city. A call for artists will be put out and the city’s Finance Department Bid process will be followed for all future art purchases. E. Grants, Fundraising Suggestions: Kathleen thanked Kara Gunter for her input at the previous meeting. Many wonderful ideas for future fundraising and grant opportunities. 6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: Nan and Dale spoke regarding the Car Sculpture that Dale would like to donate to the city. Nan made a motion to accept the sculpture and Eli seconded. After discussion the committee voted unanimously to accept the donation. They discussed where to install it and decided the Tranquility Garden would be appropriate. Kara stated that if the committee would still like to host an Artist Exhibition next year then they need to start planning it now. All agreed. 7. Parks & Trails Director comments: After Nan spoke regarding the promise made to the Bakers regarding purchase of the Lion and Ballerina, Anthony stated that he will speak to the City Manager about the purchase and will have an answer at the next meeting. He stated that a bid process and call for artists will be followed for all future art needs including future greenway trailheads. 8. Adjournment Meeting adjourned at 1:00 P.M.
