3. Approval of the Minutes
Nan made a motion to approve the June 14, 2022 minutes. Kara seconded. Motion passed.
4. Introduction of Guests
5. BUSINESS:
A. Work on Call for Artist Form: Kara presented the form she had worked on and then went over
it point by point with the group for input on details. After agreeing on and filling in much of the
missing details, Kara offered to update the form and send to Anthony Whittington for use in
submitting to Finance for the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead sculpture.
B. Tranquility Garden Progress: The meeting onsite, held in June, was very productive. Parks
personnel were present and able to explain in detail what they would be able to accomplish for
an entryway with the funding that we have. A location for the entryway was suggested by Nan
and agreed on by all who were present. It was also decided that the signage used at David F.
Watkins Memorial Park would be perfect for the entryway at the garden. It has a slanted top
that is just slightly raised off the ground. Kathleen showed the group the different types of signs
that could be done and a font was decided on. She will order the sign. It will state simply
“Tranquility Garden.”
C. Baker’s Lion and Ballerina Update: Anthony announced that City Manager Bill Burrough had
signed off on the purchase of the Lion and Ballerina. Kathleen will contact the Baker’s for an
invoice and to set up a date for pickup. Anthony informed the committee that after the
purchase of these two sculptures there will be $12,500 left in the capital line item. He
suggested that the remaining balance be rolled into 2023 for use with future funding for the
purchasing the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead sculpture.
VOTE: Nan made a motion to roll leftover funds to 2023 for purchasing the sculpture needed
for the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead. Kara seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
D. Grants, Fundraising Suggestions: Kara informed the group that if they know of any grants that
might could be used for art purchasing, please send her the link and she will investigate it
further.
6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: Eli mentioned that he would like to plan a workshop series for
fundraising for AAC. He will email the details to all.
7. Parks & Trails Director comments:
8. Adjournment: JoAnn made a motion to adjourn. June seconded. Motion passed. Adjourned 1:00 PM.
Next meeting is Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 12:00 P.M., Parks Conference Room, 111 Opera Street,
