MINUTES HOT SPRINGS ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE April 11, 2023 12:00 PM 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1. Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dale Blackwelder, Alix Stafford, Kara Gunter, Eli Vega, and Karen Wiley. Excused: June Simmons. Absent: Nan Cameron. Staff: Anthony Whittington, Kathleen Fason. 2. Approval of the Agenda Alix made a motion to approve the April 11, 2023 agenda. Karen seconded. Motion passed. 3. Approval of the Minutes Alix made a motion to approve the March 14, 2023 minutes with correction to meeting date under AAC Comments. Dale seconded. Motion passed. 4. Introduction of Guests 5. OLD BUSINESS: A. Tranquility Update and set date for dedication: Anthony explained that he was waiting for an answer on availability of Mayor. He is hoping for the second or third week of May but might need to be in June. B. Sculpture Installation Updates: Anthony shared that after another visit to the location for both the Ballerina and the Lion sculptures it was decided that the Lion could be mounted directly to the rock surface. The Ballerina will have a tube plinth. Parks employee (Ken) is currently working on the Car runway plinth. Karen requested that Kathleen send her photos of the Lion and Ballerina. C. Fundraising Suggestions: Dale asked for ideas for fundraising during the Solar Eclipse happening on April 8, 2024. Kara suggested Paper Lanterns could be painted and decorated with a Spa City/Eclipse theme and hung at the Farmer’s Market for viewing. Karen suggested a contest with awards and maybe an activity table for youth to create their own lanterns. It was decided to have it at the Farmer’s Market the Saturday before the eclipse (May 6). Alix and Karen both know someone on the Farmer’s Market Board and said they would ask about getting space on that day. Kara and Karen said they would work together to come up with a program layout and will email it to Anthony and Kathleen. Kathleen offered to send the committee a link that has everything on the 2024 Eclipse. 6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: 7. Parks & Trails Director comments: 8.
