MINUTES PARKS & TRAILS ADVISORY COMMITTEE May 19, 2022 5:00 P.M 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1) Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dudley Webb, Julie Nix, Samantha Christian, Larry Williams, Bob Reddish and Ann Kendrick. P&T staff present: Anthony Whittington 2) Approval of the Agenda Bob made a motion to approve the May 19, 2022 agenda. Samantha seconded. Motion carried unanimously. 3) Approval of the Minutes Larry made a motion to approve the April 21, 2022 minutes. Ann seconded. Motion carried unanimously. 4) Introduction of Guests 5) New Business A) Officer Elections: Chair and Co-Chair Positions: Motion was made by Larry to elevate Julie from Co-Chair to Chair, Samantha seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Motion was made by Bob to nominate Samantha as Co-Chair, Dudley seconded. Motion carried unanimously. B) Hot Springs Creek Greenway Bid Update: Anthony explained that Cate Inc. has been awarded the contract for the next phase of the HSCGT know as Southern Trail Phase 1. Cate has extensive experience in trail building as well as direct experience on the HSCGT. Pre-construction meeting will be conducted soon. C) Velocity Park Update, School Involvement Phase 3 Planning: Anthony explained that Velo- Solutions will begin work on Phase 1 of Velocity Park in July. He is planning to have a groundbreaking around the same time that work begins. Installation of the initial pump track and amenities will be included in Phase 1. The city will provide in-kind work roughing in the natural surface trail in between each amenity. Phase 2 Grant (Outdoor Recreation Grant) is being written and submitted this year. It will include the second phase of the pump track and additional sections of natural surface trail and amenities. Anthony explained that he is looking at involving Lake Hamilton school in the planning of phase 3. Students will have direct involvement in what amenities they would like to see in that phase of the park. D) Trail Coordinator Position Update: The position will be advertised through the city’s Human Resources Department. Part-time position, 20 hours per week. E) Stokes Creek TAP and RTP Grant: The TAP and RTP Grant request will be resubmitted again this year for Stokes Creek Phase 1. Deadline is June 1, 2022. 6) Parks & Trails Director Reports, Announcements, & Items for Discussion  The Diamond Lakes Chapter of Master Naturalists will have a Monarch butterfly release June 4th, 10:30 am. Meet at Farmer’s Market, then walk down to Butterfly Garden along the HSCGT. 7) Parks & Trails Advisory Committee Reports, Announcements, & Items for Discussion  N/A 8) Adjournment: The Parks and Trails Advisory Committee will hold their next regular meeting on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ATTEST: ___________________________ APPROVAL: ____________________________ Anthony Whittington, Director Julie Nix, Chairperson Parks & Trails Department Parks & Trails Advisory Committee
