MINUTES OF THE HUNTSVILLE ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
Thursday, July 9, 2020, 5:00 P.M.

Commissioners Present: Ann Hodges, Una Grace Nash, Michael Henderson, Paul Olle, Margaret
Smith, John Escobedo. Jaspyr Sanford
Staff Present: Tammy Gann, Miranda Estrada
I. Call the meeting to order: The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Ann
Hodges.
II. Hear citizen input: There was no citizen input.
III. Consider minutes of June 2020: The minutes of the June meeting were approved on a
motion by Una Grace Nash and seconded by Jaspyr Sanford. All members present
approved, and the motion passed.
IV. Review, discussion, and decision on Huntsville Arts Commission grant guidelines
Commission members expressed concern over the amount of time given to
complete score sheets for the individual organizations applying for grants
The application guidelines were amended to include “No later than 10
business days the commission will meet to discuss and finalize scores”.
Michael Henderson motioned to amend the guidelines and adopt as amended;
Una Grace Nash seconded the motion.
Commissioner Escobedo expressed concerns over the accessibility of
organizations to track hotel occupancy.
All members present approved, and the grant guidelines were adopted as
amended.
V. Review and discussion of current Huntsville Arts Commission projects.
Miranda Estrada gave the commission an update of the responses received from the
different organizations that were awarded funding
A total of $8063.00 of awarded funding was unused due to COVID-19
VI. Discuss local murals and establish possible guidelines
Miranda Estrada introduced a first copy of Mural Design Guidelines to the
commission members
Currently there is no document nor established guidelines for murals that are
seeking funding from the commission
These guidelines were created by Sarah Faulkner and Tracy Chappell with the
help of the City of Georgetown. Maintained and easements and the city’s
responsibility and the property owners
These guidelines outline how the mural will be maintained and the proper
easements needed. This will also clearly establish the responsibility of the city
and property owners.
These guidelines will give the Art Commission all authority for murals
seeking funding.
VII. Adjourn the meeting: The meeting was adjourned at 6:36 p.m. on a motion by Ann
Hodges and a second by Una Grace Nash.
