MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES – January 17, 2020 1 Present: Cheryl, Heike, Helen, Laura, Caroline, Sandra, Michelle Absent: Gaye & Bert Staff: Tracy Chappell, Tammy Gann, Leigha Larkins, Esme Mata Chair Spencer called the meeting to order at 12:33pm. Consideration and possible action on approval of December 20, 2019 minutes. MOTION WAS MADE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FOR DECEMBER 20, 2019 BELCHER/BRUNS/UNANIMOUS Main Street Coordinator Report: Chappell gave update on the following:  City has applied for Asphalt Art Initiative Grant, for crosswalk murals  Progress in purchasing additional 17 lampposts  THC is gifting Main Street programs new signage to designate them as Main Street cities  Underground utility lines is an ongoing goal. We are hoping to implement this during the 12th St grant project as a trial.  Leigha Larkins gave a report on the desired public restrooms location on the Wall Lot. Development Services cannot support this recommendation as the amount of space it would take to make public restrooms ADA complaint would remove a large number of parking spaces in this lot. With this being said, it seems that the best course of action is move forward in trying to get the county on board with public restrooms on the county square. Committee Reports:  Belcher gave a report on the Promotions Committee meeting as follows o Junkapalooza, the MSAB determined the committee date of 3.14 (same day as Rusty Chippy) was not desirable and made the recommendation for the event on 3.21 from 7- 12 PM o Main Street Music Series, will take place in April in conjunction with the Old Town Theatre  Chappell gave a report on the Downtown Business Alliance o Current state of the DBA is unknown as the current DBA president has closed his business and not given an update on his stance moving forward with the DBA Discuss beautification efforts downtown.  Crepe Myrtles: Chappell had a meeting with Parks & Streets on the status of the crepe myrtles. They will continue to maintain the trees and Main Street will research tree rings that can help the overgrown roots that are uplifting the street pavers. If the utility line project is to come to fruition with the help of a grant, the sidewalks and pavers will be lifted and we can look at a new alternative to alleviate the safety issue caused by lifting pavers.  Decorative Lamps: We are working on getting the current lamps repainted so that they will look fresh and new when we get the 17 additional lamps.  Signage & Feather Banners: This continues to be something that the city is monitoring. Current banners that are in the right of way of pedestrians are against code. MSAB Minutes MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES – January 17, 2020 2 Public Comments: NONE Items of Interest: There is a desire to have banners across the Sam Houston Ave & 11th St for large scale events. Planning is looking into how this can be done. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 1:33pm. BELCHER/BRUNS/UNANIMOUS MSAB Minutes
