Friday prior to the scheduled Monday meeting). Please note, times given for agenda items are

discretion.

Meeting Notice:
The Hyattsville City Council will hold its meeting on Monday, May 20, 2024 remotely via video
conference. The Council meeting will be conducted entirely remotely; there will be no in-person
meeting attendance.
The meeting will be broadcast live on cable television channel 71 (Comcast), channel 12 (Verizon), and
available via live stream at www.hyattsville.org/meetings.

I move the Mayor and Council close the Council Meeting of May 20, 2024, to consult with the
City Attorney and staff regarding pending litigation. The reasons for closing the meeting under
these exceptions are to maintain legally required confidentiality regarding litigation and to
protect Attorney/Client privileged communications.
This session will be closed under the authority of the Annotated Code of Maryland State
Government General Provisions Article Section 3-305 (b)(7) to consult with counsel to obtain
legal advice and Section 3-305 (b)(8) consult with staff, consultants, or other individuals about
pending or potential litigation.

I move that the Mayor and Council amend the FY24 Special Revenues Budget to appropriate
prior year unencumbered DOJ/COPS Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness (LEMHWA)
grant funds in the amount of $118,800 to support the Police Department’s Mental Wellness
Check-in Initiative Program.

Intervention Teams (CIT) grant funds in the amount of $230,000 to support the Hyattsville
Police Departments Joint CIT Mobile Crisis Program.

Health Department and Prince George’s County Public School District
I move the City Council authorize the Mayor to send correspondence to the Prince George’s
County Health Department and the Prince George’s County Public School District requesting
harm reduction education be added to the County’s Health 2 Curriculum and allow individuals
below the age of 18 to receive NARCAN training and kits.

12.b. Zoning Variance Request: V-14-24 5800 30th Ave, Hyattsville HCC-322-FY24
I move the City Council authorize the Mayor to send correspondence to the Prince George’s
County Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) requesting the denial of a variance request for the
subject property at 5800 30th Ave, Hyattsville. The correspondence shall (1) cite the applicant’s
existing conditions which significantly exceed the maximum net lot area coverage of 35% and
(2) recommend that the applicant be required to remediate the site with the incorporation of
pervious materials.

to Utilize Gender Neutral Language and Modernize the Charter’s Gender
Equality Provision
I move the Mayor and Council adopt Hyattsville Charter Amendment 2024-02, a resolution
amending the Charter to modernize the Charter’s gender equality provision to address all
gender identities with respect to registering, voting, holding office, and amending the Charter
to utilize gender neutral language, and making other non-substantive changes (INTRODUCTION
& ADOPTION).
