PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2017 ACTIVITY CENTER 12:00 NOON Present: Greg A. Weitzel, Ronnie Campbell, PJ Holm, David Pennock, Tim Reinke, Bill Combo, Jeff Forbes, Tom Hersh, Matt Hill, JIll Kirkham, John LoBouno, Kris Millgate, Dave Radford, Tom Hally Absent: Mike Davis, Kerry Martin, Jim Hammon Guest Attendees: Lisa Jones, Robert Nitchke APPROVAL OF MINUTES January Minutes – John LoBuono motioned to approve as written. Dave Radford seconded. All in favor. PUBLIC COMMENT None. DIRECTOR’S REPORT – Greg Weitzel  WATERSMART Grant Submitted. When project completed it will take Pinecrest Golf Course off the City’s potable water system.  Future events – change of venue for July 4th, eclipse and airshow  Possibility of the Farmers Market partnering with the City  Signage and Wayfinding: Traffic signs are now being installed  Bike/Ped safety plan is in development stages  Asking for Council approval to make South Tourist Park a pay to stay - $15 a night DEPARTMENT REPORTS Golf – Tim Reinke  Council presentation went well  Moose are living at Sandcreek.  Encourages to like courses on Facebook Zoo – David Pennock  Building four Exploration Stations throughout the Zoo  Volunteer Recruiting in full swing  Possibility and timing of Zoo Education Center discussed Recreation – PJ Holm  Submitted grant for Heritage Park funds  Spring/Summer Guide will be out in March  Prepping for all summer events in full swing  Rec Center roof needs complete replacing. Has been in trouble for years. The snow load this year was too much for it  General sports/facility updates Parks/Cemeteries – Brent Martin  General updates.  December was very busy for snow removal  Hired two new full employees for irrigation  Working on new Tree Walk Program  Just ordered over $12,000 of seeds  Self-Watering Planters being hung this year. Will save many labor hours  Cemetery updates BONNEVILLE COUNTY – D. Radford  72 ft bridge connecting trails being worked on  Bryan Reed taking lead on 4H/fair board  Water levels at 182% of normal GOLF REPORT – Tom Hersh  Council presentation went well  Mayor is backing the WATERSMART Changes at Pinecrest. It will save roughly 57 million gallons of water a season SCHOOL DISTRICT #91 – Kerry Martin (absent)  No Report SCHOOL DISTRICT #93 – Mike Davis (absent)  No Report SHADE TREE COMMITTEE – Matt Hill  No Report MEETING ADJURNED AT 1:15 P.M.
