PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES MONDAY, MARCH 6, 2017 ACTIVITY CENTER 12:00 NOON Present: Greg A. Weitzel, Brent Martin, Ronnie Campbell, PJ Holm, David Pennock, Tim Reinke, Bill Combo, Jeff Forbes, Jim Hammon, Matt Hill, Kerry Martin, Jill Kirkham, John LoBouno, Kris Millgate, Dave Radford, Tom Hally Absent: Mike Davis, Tom Hersh, Guest Attendees: Lisa Jones, Robert Nitchke APPROVAL OF MINUTES January Minutes – Dave Radford motioned to approve as written. John LoBuono seconded. All in favor. PUBLIC COMMENT None. DIRECTOR’S REPORT – Greg Weitzel  Department facilities are busy and over run. Problems are being band aided for far too long. Community needs to back a more permanent solution.  Annual report distributed and reviewed.  Decision on the location of the Fourth of July fireworks should be in by the end of this week. Study findings/slides reviewed.  Lay out of the new Farmers Market area reviewed.  Fee increases reviewed.  183 camping spots added to Sandy Downs for the 2017 eclipse.  Auditorium District conversation happening in regards to a possible partnership. Discussion ensued. *John LoBuono motioned to explore feasibility of Parks and Recreation partnering with the Auditorium District. Kris Millgate seconded. All in favor.  POW MIA Rally being held at Sandy Downs this summer.  Naming and Renaming of City facilities resolution is being revived and hope to go back to Council this spring. DEPARTMENT REPORTS Golf – Tim Reinke  Financial ahead of where we were last February.  52 new carts being purchased for Sand Creek.  Raising cart fees. Zoo – David Pennock  300 people hosted in Zoo Mobiles.  Had a new camel baby this morning.  New bear cub born last Sunday. Recreation – PJ Holm  Concert and Eclipse updates.  Guide is being finalized and going to print next week.  Kevin Day retired. Currently looking at applicants to fill the opening.  Making changes to change Rec Programing to meet CAPRA Accreditation standards.  ICCU sponsored Movies in the Park for the 2017 season.  Hired a new Aquatics specialists. Hoping to make good changes at the pool.  New archery program starting this summer.  General division updates. Parks/Cemeteries – Brent Martin/Ronnie Campbell  General updates.  Parks Maintenance Office moving to Rollandet (Brent, Ronnie and Genene).  40” x 90’ tent is here  Installing new fencing at Noise Park.  Ronnie – IN the process of developing maintenance standards for each park. This will also help with attaining CAPRA Accreditation. BONNEVILLE COUNTY – D. Radford  Federal grants are getting few and far between but they are still an option for help with funding projects.  Caribou and Targee approached about helping with a new boat dock at Palisades (4 miles past Blowout)  Road to Calamity being paved in the future.  County goal is to pay as they go for projects and to not have to go out for a bond. GOLF REPORT – Tom Hersh (absent)  No Report SCHOOL DISTRICT #91 – Kerry Martin  Pinecrest is hosting 4A Golf Tournament this year  State Cross Country went to Pocatello  Next Spring will host 4A Baseball. 2A will be hosted this year.  Permanent score boards need to be installed at all of the soccer fields.
