PARKS & RECREATION SHADE TREE COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday April 24, 2018 Activity Center 12:00 Noon ATTENDEES: Kim Johnson, Gerry Bates, Lee Washburn, Delbert Lloyd, Matt Hill, Ronnie Campbell, Rich Potter, Brian Cardon APPROVAL OF MINUTES April 2018 minutes approved- Gerry Bates, second Rich Potter COMMITTEE MEMBER UPDATE N/A PUBLIC COMMENTS N/A ORDINANCE REVISION o Matt Hill will recommend changes to the ordinance section 8-9-11 (B)(c) and 8-9-14, to say street trees and shrubs shall be trimmed from the ground level to at least thirteen feet (13’) above the curb line and any branches over one inch (1”) in diameter or at the discretionary of the Urban Forester. o We feel like if we inforce the ordinance street dept. will be happy. CONDITIONS AND CONCERNS – FOURTH STREET BETWEEN BLV. AND HOLMES Tree on south side of the street looks like the bark has been taken off. Delbert and Lee will go look at it. OLD BUTTE TREE FARM Arbor Day 2018. It will be roughly 50,000 sq. ft. and hold less than 200 trees. CITY TREE DISCUSSION o Brian Cardon (street dept.) discussed the importance of the height of the trees they can cause a lot damage to city vehicles most are at least 15’ high in center of street, 13’ to the curb line and 8’ above sidewalks. o Gerry is concerned about the smaller trees so it was voted to add 1” in diameter on all limbs in the ordinance all agreed they do not want to hurt smaller trees. o Public education about the ordinance- social media, door hangers, ect… Mayor would like to the tree ordinance on the web page – once council approves the revised ordinance, Genene will have the ordinance on the web page CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS o Trees and Shrub Booklet update – Delbert: talked about updating the Trees and Shrubs for Idaho Falls pamphlet, by next fall.
