PARKS & RECREATION SHADE TREE COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday August 27, 2019 Activity Center 12:00 Noon ATTENDEES: Matt Hill, Ronnie Campbell, Lee Washburn, Rich Potter, Randy Westergard, Gerry Bates, Aaron McCracken, Brian Stevens, Justin Garn, William Harker and Rebecca Pyper APPROVAL OF MINUTES Rich Potter, Matt Hill second PUBLIC COMMENTS Boulevard Project BOULEVARD PROJECT Rebecca Pyper attended the meeting in regards to the street trees on Blv. She lives on 22nd and Blv. and is worried about the loss of the historic trees. She asked Shade Tree Committee if we were in favor of the project, majority is opposed however, there are a few trees that need to be taken out due to disease some are too big and have been topped due to power lines. She also asks if a 4 foot strip will be big enough for new trees, we say no 10 feet would be better, she also talks about the power pole that will need to moved and the cost to move them. We also discussed the importance of the longevity of the trees proper spacing, soil and watering. HOLLEY TREE FARM Moved to September’s meeting. TAUTPHAUS PARK PICTURE TREEE Press release will be this week and tree will be taken down following the press release. WHEN, WHERE AND WHAT TO DO FOR TRAINING / CONFRENCE We need to get hold of Sonny at the Zoo to see if we can use the new education center to hold a parks training possibly in October and later in the winter do a community training.
