PARKS & RECREATION SHADE TREE COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday September 24, 2019 Activity Center 12:00 Noon ATTENDEES: Matt Hill, Ronnie Campbell, Lee Washburn, Rich Potter, Gerry Bates, Brian Stevens, Justin Garn, and Kim Johnson APPROVAL OF MINUTES Brian Stevens, Gerry Batesl second PUBLIC COMMENTS Matt said the street trees in Stonebrook look really good and have been trimmed properly MAYOR CASPER Community Canopy-Gerry said there is a training on October 5th I plan to attend the training and will gather information on the Energy saving program at that time and Gerry said we can have people come and educate us on the program. Planting Maps- We are currently using Tree Plotter to map our trees. Xeriscaping- We talked about Xeriscaping and the pros and cons but we have decided this should be in a different meeting because it really does not have anything to do with STC. City Brochures- We will get information to go in the brochures to inform property owners Where , How and when to plant trees to go along with the Energy Saving Program. Arbor Day 2020- We are planning where we will do Arbor Day and we are going to try to get kids in3rd to 5th grade to help with this year’s event IF Carbon Sequestration- We will need to do some testing to get this information. ROW Standards- Code Revisions- Lee and I will gather the information and get it to Mayor by mid-October City Growth Philosophy-We need to focus on all city trees including and inform the community as to why the trees need to be moved or cut down. BLV. PROJECT We are going to go out and inventory the trees on Blv. HOLLEY TREE FARM STC is opposed to purchasing the tree farm they feel like we don’t have the ability to maintain it properly and we will lose a lot of the trees because of their size. TRAINING AND CONFERANCE On October 23rd,2019 we are going to have a tree trimming training session for the Parks Department and the end of March or first of April we will have a public workshop for all to attend, Gerry Bates is going to help with the planning of that.
