WAR BONNET ROUNDUP RODEO ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Monday, June 24th, 2021

Members in Attendance: K. Jones, K. Staten, D. Marshall, , K. Searle, B. Skinner, P. Holm, C.
Horsley, R. Campbell, B. Cranor, H. Pettingill, D. Sorensen

Call to Order
K. Jones called the meeting to order at 11:23
Approval of Minutes
B. Skinner motioned to approve the June 14, 2021 minutes. D. Marshall seconded.
Director Report – P. Holm
The VIP, hospitality and general tickets are ordered and some of them are in hand.
Parking passes are in hand.
We are going to purchase the Henry Golden Boys 22 caliber saddle rifle.
We need to promote and market the Wednesday night kick-off.
P. Holm talked with the Wild Horse Race Association president.
Chair Report – J. Newgard (absent)
Action Items
Food Vendor Decision – K. Staten
K. Staten reiterated the vendor and menu options. B. Skinner motioned to use Blackhawk
BBQ on Thursday, North Hi-Way Café on Friday, and Café Sabor on Saturday. K. Jones
seconded. All in favor.
Pay For Dancers and Drummers – K. Jones
The tribal dancers and drummers wanted a raise this year, but after further discussion
about the need for consistency, B. Skinner motioned to keep their pay the same and
reassess next year. D. Marshall seconded. All in favor. It was agreed that we need to
have a discussion with these groups this fall and decide on a fair way they will be paid,
regardless of how many years they have performed.
Committee Reports
Military Affairs/American Legion – B. Skinner
There was discussion on Saturday’s military night and the decision to play military music
as the military personnel are in the arena. We will also have our vets stand followed by
our family of active duty military personnel and vets.
Hospitality/Sponsorships – K. Staten
Volunteers will be needed for hospitality.
Livestock Welfare – K. Searle
The horses have been solidified for the opening act. We will try to get a male and female
rider, and use the same two riders for all three nights. K. Searle will try to get backup
riders in case there is an injury or something.
There was discussion on what to get our opening act riders. Commemorative buckles?
Pics of them in action framed? It was decided to get the pictures taken and framed by
our artist Gene Sherman.
Obtaining hay is in the works and Bart is checking on sheep.
Facilities/Grounds & Security – R. Campbell
The RV power has been upgraded on the east side.
All of the arena has been painted.
The agreement for security is still being considered.
The staff is set up for hand raking the arena for barrel racing.
H. Pettingill is working on the site plan.
Media/Emergency Action Plan – B. Cranor
The communication plan is worked off.
Media promotion for the rodeo begins the week of July 19 th.
He mentioned preparing future stories regarding the arena itself and the rodeo, i.e., what
do we do to prepare the arena, the pens for livestock, etc.
The media will be given a VIP arena tour during the kick-off event.
Youth Rodeo/Family Night – C. Horsley
The newly purchased BB guns were dropped off at Sportsman’s Warehouse to be
engraved.
He has the buckles and trophies ordered.
The dunk tank has been reserved.
Shoshone Bannock Tribes – T. Shay (absent/reported via e-mail)
The riders will all be the same as previous years.
He has located a large tipi to be set up during the rodeo.
He is waiting for confirmation on whether the Spring Creek singers will be returning this
year. If not, has a backup.
He is getting responses back from dancers who are willing to dance for the rodeo in its
entirety.
He is working on a video. He asks we use the same video from last year if he can’t get a
new one.
Production/Royalty – K. Jones
She asked for clarification on how to honor the Volunteer of the Year. It was agreed, that
we should put something on the big screen.
There is a spot near the tractor where she’ll do the sponsor pics.
The Champs Heart spot will be on Friday.
We need to confirm the EIRMC moment.
We need a fog machine, preferably a battery operation one for the hummer.
I.E. Productions will be printing the day sheets.
Kelly Wardell is available to work the rodeo.
She advised our royalty just finished an event in Mackay.
Financial Report – D. Sorensen
He asked about the coverage on the royalty who drives the Teton Toyota truck.
The tickets have been delivered to all the outlets: Vickers, Cal Ranch, KJ’s, Teton Toyota,
and the Recreation Center.
Adjournment
B. Skinner moved to adjourn the meeting at 12:48 pm. D. Marshall seconded. Meeting
adjourned.
