BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY COUNCIL CHAMBERS OCTOBER 26, 2021-8:30 A.M. Roll call was answered by Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe and Chairman Jim Dazey and Board Member Don Gura. Others present were: Scott Mosley, Mark Schultz, Scott Derby, Lance Waters, Jeremy McKinley, Brian Strange, Katie Ritchie, and Cindy Marple. Pledge of Allegiance The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance. Minutes The minutes of the October 12, 2021 Board of Public Works and Safety meeting were presented for approval. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve the minutes with a second by Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes-0 nays. Petitions or Comments No petitions or comments were given. Mayor Application for Use of Public Facilities- Christmas Parade Kristen Johnson requested the use of public facilities on Saturday December 4, 2021 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. for the Christmas Parade. This will take place on Main Street from Harding to Rush Street. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Engineering Extension of 2015-16 Tree Removal/ Pruning Retainer Contract Engineering Administrator Scott Derby requested the extension of the Mudrack Tree Retainer Contract be extended through 2022 with a 5.4% increase. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Street Request to Purchase Truck/Snowplow Street Superintendent Brian Strange requested authorization to purchase a 2022 Chevrolet 2500 Regular Cab Truck with plow from Kendallville Shepherds GMC in the amount of $31,930.00. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Employee Transfer Street Superintendent Brian Strange requested the authorization to allow Water Department employee Darin Metzger to transfer to the Street Department tentatively on November 15, 2021. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Request to Hire Street Superintendent Brian Strange requested authorization to hire Ryan Walkup as a full time Heavy Equipment Operator. Ryan’s date of hire will be November 15, 2021. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. WWTP The September Financial Report was presented for review. The September Activity Report was presented for review. Sewer Adjustment Request- 117 E. High Street Michele Meyer resident at 117 E High Street requested a sewer adjustment of $849.12 as someone turned on both water hoses and flooded their basement. It was inspected by Wastewater and verified that the water did not go down the drain and it was recommended that the adjustment be given. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Request to Hire Superintendent Mark Schultz requested authorization to hire Cole Criswell to fill the vacant Operators position. Cole would start on Monday November 1, 2021 at $19.00/ hr. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays. Water The September Revenue/ Expense Report was presented for review. Superintendent Scott Mosley said since employee Darin Metzger is transferring to the Street Department that he is going to open up his position internally until Friday October 29, 2021. Motion to Adjourn Board Member Don Gura made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chairman Jim Dazey adjourned the meeting at 8:47 A.M. _____________________________________ Kathren R.
