COUNCIL CHAMBERS-CITY HALL
AUGUST 18, 2020 -7:00 P.M.
Public Hearing for Additional Appropriation for the LOIT Public Safety Fund 244.
The Common Council of the City of Kendallville met in regular session Tuesday August 18, 2020 at 7:01 P.M.
Roll call was answered by: Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe, Council Member Regan Ford, Council Member Corey
Boese, Council Member Jim Dazey, Attorney Doug Atz, and Council Member Amy Ballard. Council Member
Steven Clouse and MY AC Member Kyle Blackbum was absent.
Others present were: Andy Barrand- KPC News, Lance Waters, Katie Ritchie, Jeremy McKinley, Scott Derby,
Mark Schultz, John Dixon, Justin Beall, Angie Handshoe, Todd & Sheryl Hanes, Virginia Desormeaux, Bob &
Gloria Lash, Jim, Lori, & Kara Desormeaux, and P.G. Desormeaux, and Terry Longsworth.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance.
MINUTES/ MEETING
Minutes from the August 4, 2020 Common Council meeting were presented for review. Council Member Jim
Dazey made a motion to approve with a second from Council Member Amy Ballard. The motion passed 4 ayes
- 0 nays.
PETITIONS OR COMMENTS
No petitions or comments were given.
MAYOR
Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe conducted the swearing in of Patrolman Police Officers: Dakota Dellahan, Brody
Fretz, Clinton Custer, and Josh Desormeaux.
The July Aviation Minutes were presented for review.
The Humane Society report was presented for review.
CLERK-TREASURER
Resolution # l 066/ Additional Appropriation LOIT Public Safety
Council Member Jim Dazey requested the reading of Resolution #1066 in its entirety. Attorney Doug Atz read
Resolution# 1066 in its entirety. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve with a second from
Council Member Amy Ballard. The motion passed 4 ayes - 0 nays.
ENGINEERING
City Engineer, Scott Derby, presented the possibility of a purchase of equipment for in house completion of
pending and future projects. The equipment would consist of an Excavator, Trench Box, and Breaker. The
estimated equipment cost would be $220,000 to $290,000. Scott Derby told the Council the same information
would be presented at the next Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on August 25, 2020.
City Engineer, Scott Derby, also gave a tree update from the storm that happened on Monday, August 10, 2020.
There were 42 trees (City Terrace) that were lost in the storm and there is an estimated cost of $32,000.00 for
removal of these trees.
FIRE
The July Report was presented for review.
POLICE
The July Report was presented for review.
ALLOWENCE OF BILLS AND CLAIMS
Council Member Jim Dazey presented bills and claim numbers 66363 through 66485 for $1,107,109.01 for
approval. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve the bills and claims with a second by Council
Member Amy Ballard. The motion passed 4 ayes-0 nays.
Mayor, SuzAnne Handshoe, thanked everyone in the community for coming together after the storm hit to help
their neighbors and citizens clean up streets and debris.
MOTION TO ADJOURN
Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe adjourned the
meeting at 7: 16 P.M.
