Kendallville Park and Recreation Department 211 Iddings StreetKendallville, Indiana 46755 Phone (260)347-1064 KENDALLVILLE PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT BOARD MEETING MINUTES January 13, 2020 6:30pm Present: Kevin Jansen, President; Dennis Nartker, Vice President; Dave Button; Tom Jansen; Kara Hand; Brett Slone, KORC Manager; Dawn McGahen, Recreation Director and Jim Pankop, Park Director. Jason Meade, Hit the Field Sports Tournament Director was also present. Public Comments: Jason Meade reported that the numbers are up for the 8U – 14U boy’s Hit the Field Sports baseball tournaments that he runs at the Kendallville Outdoor Recreation Complex. After conversation with Jason the Board thanked him for his efforts at the KORC. Minutes of the meeting of December 9, 2019 were approved as presented. (Button/T. Jansen) Claims were reviewed and approved as presented. (T. Jansen/Hand) Directors Report: Highlights 1. Reviewed the Appropriation Report from the Clerk Treasurer for the month of December 2019. 2. The Board learned that the Annual Report is complete and will be printed soon. 3. Reported that detailed conceptual drawings for the Campground improvements are in the process of being designed. After meeting with David Brown it was determined to phase this project starting with the area currently being used as a ball field. These drawings will be used in an effort to obtain budgetary cost. 4. The Board was informed that the next Park Board Meeting on February 10 th will take place immediately following the Citizens Academy that will start at 6pm. Maintenance Report: Highlights 1. Converted existing lights in Park Maintenance Building to LED. 2. Cut down and cleaned up 4 large dead trees with help from the Street Department. 3. Completed repair and painting of 75 picnic tables. 4. Completed take down of the Christmas Card Drive-thru. 5. Installed plywood backing, at ground level, inside new pole building. Kendallville Outdoor Recreation Complex Update: Brett reported that work continues on the final schedule for 2020. The new consideration is which current tournaments are big enough to use all 8 fields and if not can another tournament be scheduled to run at the same time. Recreation Update: 1. The Community Christmas Drive-Thru was a success with a record 76 boards. 2. We have finished the Annual Report and will be sending them out soon. 3. A free Ping Pong Tournament will be held Saturday January 18 th at the Youth Center 4. Dawn will be traveling to Poland for the Camp America Job Fair in hopes of hiring two international camp counselors for the summer of 2020. Jansen) ❖ Christmas Greeting Drive-Thru o Drs Roush & Will - $100.00 o Gaslight Playhouse - $50.00 o Community - $261.55 ❖ Tennis Court Upgrade- o Randy and Mayor Handshoe - $100.00 Board Input: Kara Hand attended the open house at the Community Learning Center and commented that the building looks great and the event was well attended by the public. Dave Button asked if Steve Walters would be returning this year to oversee the Campground. He was informed that at this time Steve plans on coming back. A motion to adjourn was made by (T. Jansen/Nartker) at 7:22pm.
