Kendallville Park and Recreation Department 211 Iddings StreetKendallville, Indiana 46755 Phone (260)347-1064 BOARD MEETING MINUTES November 14, 2022 6:30PM Present: Kevin Jansen, President, Dave Button, Dennis Nartker, Tracy Tipton, and Dawn McGahen-Park Director, Diane Peachey, Skatepark Enthusiast. Public Comments: None were given. Minutes of the October 10, 2022 meeting were approved as presented. (Button, Tipton) Claims were reviewed and approved as presented. (Nartker, Tipton) Skatepark Discussion: Diane Peachey told the board about the public meeting and the future steps needed for the skatepark. We are waiting on a revised final design and she has been working on attaining information for grants to assist with the fundraising efforts. Directors Report: Highlights: 1. An ordinance has been written for the Park Department to hold funds raised for the skatepark. It is on the agenda for City Council to approve it. 2. We are working on end of the year reports and expenditures. We will also be starting on the Annual Report so it can be done in January. 3. Sunset Park prairie project has started and we are seeking some funding through the DNR to help with this. Ball diamonds are also going to be moved to the south side. 4. The appropriation report was discussed and our budget is in good shape. 5. A representative came on site to discuss ADA compliancy within the park system. We spent a few hours looking at various areas within the park. 6. The KORC Phase II Endowment matching grant deadline is getting close and we still have more money to raise in order to receive 100% of it. Maintenance Report: Highlights: 1. Soil was hauled in and leveled around the Jansen Pavilion. The Street Department helped with this project. 2. Mulching of leaves has been completed. 3. The Archery Range parking lot has been improved with millings from the US6 project. They also added a path from the parking lot to the archery lean too and put a solid floor of millings in the lean too. 4. Picnic tables have been gathered, sorted and painted. There were several in poor condition that were disposed of. 5. Finalized shutting off all the water for the winter. 6. Cleaned up foliage around the gazebo. 7. Have worked on stripping the interior of the maintenance barn so the new roof can be repaired and replaced. Recreation Update: 1. Staff helped work the Cole Center Family YMCA Family Halloween event. 2. We hosted a Trick-or-Treat drive-thru at the Youth Center and it was well received. 3. Setup is continuing for the Christmas Greetings Drive-thru. We have distributed 67 boards to be on display. 4. The Park and the YMCA are collaborating for the Tinsel Trot Family Walk/Run through the Christmas Cards on Friday December 2nd at 6:15PM. 5. The Park Department will be entering a float in the Christmas Parade this year. 6. We are planning on utilizing one of the campground cabins for a free holiday photo-op starting around Thanksgiving. We are working on next years schedule and already have several weekends reserved. 2. The Crew Cup disc golf tournament was held on the new Woodland Course and had a great turnout. 3. We sold concessions at the Crew Cup and did well. 4. Concessions have been cleaned and winterized and water has been shut off for the winter.
