Kendallville Park and Recreation Department 211 Iddings StreetKendallville, Indiana 46755 Phone (260)347-1064 BOARD MEETING MINUTES December 12, 2022 6:30PM Present: Kevin Jansen, President, Sam Zollman, Vice-President, Jen Blackman, Dave Button, Dennis Nartker, Tracy Tipton, and Dawn McGahen, Park Director Public Comments: None were given. Minutes of the November 14, 2022 meeting were approved as presented. (Button, Tipton) Claims were reviewed and approved as presented. (Zollman, Tipton) Skatepark Discussion: We are waiting on the final design to be completed which should be in the next week or so. Once that is complete, we have asked for a final project cost with a breakdown in pricing and will then start the fundraising process. Diane Peachy has also been talking to The Dekko Foundation about the timing of writing a grant. Election of Officers: Tracy Tipton made a motion and Jen Blackman seconded, nominating Kevin Jansen to continue as Park Board President. Jen nominated Tracy Tipton as Vice-President and Dave Button seconded. Motions passed unanimously. Set Fees & Discuss Park Policies: Fees for the upcoming year were discussed. It was decided that pavilion and youth center rental would remain the same. Summer Daycamp and camping will be discussed after the first of the year. There was also discussion about the gate fee to gain entrance into the park, this was also tabled until after the first of the year. Approval of Spending: Board members were given a list of possible purchases with money encumbered from the end of the year. Dave made a motion and Sam seconded it to allow Dawn to turn in the list of purchase in hopes that everything can be paid for with encumbered funds. The motion passed unanimously. Directors Report: Highlights: 1. The maintenance barn roof has been replaced. The first invoice was received and is $52,500.00. Strawser Brothers still has to install the metal ceiling so there will be another invoice for this portion of the work. 2. Dawn has looked over the campground coordinator/manager contract and would like to update it before filling the position. 3. The Dekko Foundation awarded us an $11,000.00 grant to go towards the Woodland Disc Golf Course. This money will be used to update the course. 4. The KORC Phase II Endowment Fundraising ends this year. We are still short on reaching our matching Dekko Foundation amount. The board was asked to reach out to anyone who might want to donate to this fund. Jen made a motion and Dennis seconded giving Dawn permission to use park funds if needed to meet this goal. Maintenance Report: Highlights: 1. Staff has been busy working on the interior of the maintenance barn. There has been and continue to be several aspects of the remodel that we are doing in house to save money. 2. Helped set up the Community Christmas Greetings. They also help setup the city Christmas tree in the pocket park as well as moved the mobile stage up town for the tree lighting. 3. Cleaned up limbs that came down during the strong winds. 4. Cleaned out the beach house and one of the semis at the KORC. 5. Burnt several picnic tables and leftover wood that were in poor condition. There are 67 boards on display this year. 2. Hosted the Tinsel Trot with the Cole Center Family YMCA. 3. Setup one of the campground cabins for a photo op that families can use for free. Anyone that posts a picture here on our Facebook page will be entered for a door prize. 4. Euchre has started back up at the Youth Center. They play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Kendallville Outdoor Recreation Update: 1. Staff cleaned up the area around the barns and disposed of unused items. 2. Trimmed trees around the buildings. 3. Working on a job description for the KORC manager position and hope to advertise the position after the first of the year.
