COUNCIL MINUTES July 22, 2020 The City Council of the City of Knoxville, Iowa convened in special session Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 5:00 pm. Via teleconference in a joint meeting with the Marion County Board of Supervisors. Mayor Brian Hatch presided and the following Council Members were present: Megan Suhr, John Gotta, Dylan Morse, Justin Plum and Jyl DeJong. Staffs present were City Manager Aaron Adams and Assistant City Manager Heather Ussery. Mayor Hatch gave an update to City Council in regards to the VA Campus Project Master Planning. Mayor Hatch stated that the archeological study has taken place and there were no significant findings. The State of Iowa Historical Preservation Office has 30 days to respond to the study. At that point the project will be cleared to move forward. There was an open house held for any parties interested in buildings 27 and 28. There were two firms that expressed interest and the deadline to express interest in purchasing the buildings is August 14th. Matt Carlile with Confluence was present and stated that he’s met with council members and school officials in regards to the campus. He received consistent feedback in regards to Willetts Drive becoming move of a dominant intersection, bike trail connection through the campus and interest in a sports complex of some sorts. Council Member Morse asked if the project was still on schedule and Matt Carlile stated the only thing missing at this point is the public meeting feedback component that they haven’t been able to do due to current circumstances. Council Member Suhr provided feedback requesting that we keep the public informed as much as possible and provide updates as much as possible on whatever level we’re able to. Mayor Hatch stated if members of the community are interested in speaking about the project to get in touch with Matt with Confluence. They can contact City Hall for contact information. The next meeting will be held after the request for proposals deadline, tentatively August 25th.
