Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting August 28, 2014 Laconia Rotary Hall VOTED: Minutes of regular meeting June 19, 2014 approved. Motion:Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous VOTED: June, July 2014 expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous [Finance] VOTED: To adopt City of Laconia Classification & Compensation Plan for Laconia Public Library employees. Motion: Smith; Second: Perley. Unanimous. (See attached memo) [Finance] VOTED: No commercial signs allowed on library property. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Laconia Rotary Hall. Chairman Bob Selig called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: James Anderson; John Moriarty; Craig McKeon; John Perley; Glenn Smith; Director Randy Brough Not Present: Kimberly Danosi; Superintendent of Laconia Schools; City Council Liaison Brenda Baer State Librarian Michael York shared his views on the future of libraries, library trends, and challenges facing libraries and library Trustees. Trustees had many questions for Michael, and topics discussed included: • ebooks and the statewide downloadable consortium; • digitization of municipal records and library involvement in that process; • patron usage of libraries and library resources (electronic, books, programs); • makerspaces in libraries. All in all, a lively, informative session with the State Librarian. Finance Committee: June, July 2014 expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous FY 2013-2014 unspent funds = $1535.96. Board voted to adopt City of Laconia Classification & Compensation Plan for Laconia Public Library employees. Motion: Smith; Second: Perley. Unanimous. (See attached memo) Lengthy discussion ensued regarding the best location for an electronic sign on library property. Library will talk to VFW, American Legion about plans to refurbish the WWI monument. Board voted unanimously {Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith} that no commercial signs are permitted on library property. Installation of new lighting in Periodical Reading Room is complete.
