CITY OF LACONIA HERITAGE COMMISSION September 12, 2018 MINUTES I. CALL TO ORDER: Jane Whitehead called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm. II. PRESENT: J. Whitehead (Chair), D. Duffy, M. Boudman, M. Sweet, M. Haynes, D. Trefethen ABSENT: M. Hoey, C. Tokarz STAFF: D. Wood (recording the meeting) III. MINUTES: The Minutes of the meeting on August 8, 2018, were reviewed. M. Boudman made a motion to approve the Minutes. M. Sweet seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously. IV. FINANCIAL REPORT: J. Whitehead passed out a copy of the Heritage Commission’s financial report which showed a balance as of 8/31/18 of $2,980.09. J. Whitehead said the last 2 items (4-17-18 & 4-18-18) were for members attending the “Old House & Barn Expo” sponsored by the NH Preservation Alliance on March 24 & 25, 2018, in Manchester, NH. D. Duffy asked for clarification of the expenses for the Daily Sun and Concord Monitor. Approval of the financial report is pending further information of the expenses. . V. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: M. Haynes said he had nothing new to report. VI. PLANNING BOARD UPDATE: D. Duffy said she has been following the meetings and there is nothing that relates to the Heritage Commission. D. Duffy expressed concern about the proliferation boat storage facilities. D. Duffy also questioned the size of the Lakeport Landing Marina, saying it did not appear to be the plan that was approved. D. Trefethen explained that a conceptual design was presented to the City Council and when the owner finally made application to the Planning Board, they had a new plan (10/3/17) which was approved. VII. OLD BUSINESS A. Property Restoration Recognition Awards: D. Duffy talked about the 3 houses on Pleasant Street deserving the award for the work they have put into preservation. D. Duffy also talked about the Riverbank Houses and likes what they have done with restoring houses and taking an old building and giving new use while preserving the character. D. Duffy proposed a  walking tour of Riverbank Houses with lunch in the café and also a visit to the furniture shop. B. St. Joseph’s Church: M. Haynes said there was nothing new. The move of Holy Trinity School has been postponed until the end of the school year. Construction is going very slowly. VIII. NEW BUSINESS: A. Demolition permit request: 444 Province Rd. J. Whitehead said this is a one family structure that is uninhabitable and has no architectural significance. All Commissioners were in favor of approving the DEMO permit. B. Demolition permit request: 173 Franklin St. – D. Trefethen said that the person who purchased this property intends to demo and build a small house on the property. All Commissioners were in favor of approving the DEMO permit. C. 125th Anniversary celebration and other projects, publicity, outreach: J. Whitehead suggested putting a committee together. M. Boudman asked about a walking tour and J. Whitehead said they had talked about a walking tour in conjunction with the Pumpkin Festival. D. Duffy suggested putting the walking tour on hold until spring because of the timeframe and weather. D. M. Sweet asked if the Heritage Commission had a logo and said he would be happy to design one. IX. Public Comments: None X. Adjournment: M. Boudman made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by D. Duffy. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
