CITY OF LACONIA HERITAGE COMMISSION November 14, 2018 MINUTES I. CALL TO ORDER: J. Whitehead called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. II. PRESENT: J. Whitehead, D. Duffy, M. Hoey, M. Boudman, C. Tokarz, M. Sweet ABSENT: M. Haynes STAFF: D. Wood (recording the meeting) III. MINUTES: The Minutes of the meeting on October 10, 2018 were reviewed. J. Whitehead and D. Duffy each pointed out a minor revision. D. Duffy made a motion to approve the Minutes with the revisions. C. Tokarz seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously. IV. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: None V. PLANNING BOARD UPDATE: None VI. REPORT ON WEIRS BRIDGE REPLACEMENT MEETING: J. Whitehead said she attended the meeting and passed around a map showing the detour route. J. Whitehead said the bridge was an art deco design from the 1930’s. She also noted that the detour will go through archaeological sites, and this detour will only be for emergency vehicles. VII. REPORTS ON LOCAL EVENTS: A. Visit to Register of Deeds, October 16, 2018: D. Duffy said that she went, along with M. Sweet and J. Whitehead. They met with Judy McGrath of the Registry of Deeds who gave a tour and explained how to do research on the nhdeeds.com site. B. NH Preservation Alliance “Seven to Save” announcement, October 16: J. Whitehead said she attended this event in Washington, NH and said that the State School was the last to be announced. She also said that Andrew Cushing asked her to be on the advisory committee for the State School C. Historic organ crawl, October 21: J. Whitehead said that this was an eye-opening event for her. It was a meeting of the guild of organists from all over. They went around to 4 different locations. E. LRCC accreditation public meeting, October 30: J. Whitehead said a few of them went to this meeting. D. Duffy said a panel of people would update accreditation of the school. VIII. OLD BUSINESS: Demolition permit requests granted - J. Whitehead said that both of these were beautiful sites but the buildings were ramshackle A. 80 Tower Street B. 548 Endicott Road East IX. NEW BUSINESS: Demolition permit requests pending - J. Whitehead said she visited both sites. A. 37 Leighton Avenue S: J. Whitehead said this was a minimal kind of camp and the land was beautiful. J. Whitehead asked what Commissioners were in favor of approving the DEMO application and all were in favor. J. Whitehead signed the DEMO application. B. 84 Union Avenue: J. Whitehead said this was for internal demo only. After discussion, Commissioners said they would like to visit the building before approving, so this was tabled until such time as they could visit the building. J. Whitehead agreed to contact the applicant to schedule a tour of the building X. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None XI. ADJOURNMENT: C. Tokarz made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by M. Boudman. The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
