Laconia Human Relations Committee Communications Sub-Committee April 16, 2019 2 PM – 3 PM In attendance: David Stamps, Carol Pierce, Kate Bruchacova, David Osman, Janet Simmon, Carrie Chandler There was brief conversation around the Muskrats’ project to “save” or replicate the Native American sculpture at Opechee Park. Creating a Visual which speaks to the Mission of the LHRC: Brainstorming Session: • Whatever is decided, perhaps is something that can be added to expanded over the years • Benefits of having many visuals throughout the city – not just one location • The Gateway entrance (in front of Fit Focus) is a nice spot to do something • It should be - o Welcoming in nature o In line with the mission of LHRC o Clear statement • Visual itself o Get artists involved – like Geri – invite to next meeting o David Osman – provided some “bill-board” style images seen in Florida (see attached) – 20 different messages – could be moved, stationary or switched out • Continue to develop – o Concept for approval o Funding for approval • Yard Signs o “classy” / distinctive shape o Some variation of “You are welcome here,” “All are welcome here,” “Laconia welcomes you” o Would need the approval of the Mayor o Partner with other organizations – Rotary, Kiwanis- agency logos on the bottom of the message or just LHRC? o Approx $3.40 a piece - ? charge $10 as a way to earn money to support the larger project Next meeting – doodle poll will be sent out Respectfully submitted, Carrie Chandler
