BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES April 17, 2012 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Cindy Murray, Ron Shriner and Norm Childress. Absent: Gary Henriott and Tilara McDonald-Treece Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. Mrs. Murray called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Shriner moved for approval of the minutes from the April 10, 2012 regular meeting. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. BID UNDER ADVISEMENT 2012 CDBG & Glen Neighborhood Sidewalk Replacement Project Phases I & II Mrs. Murray stated that this item will remain under advisement. NEW BUSINESS Economic Development Amendment #1-Contract with Kettelhut Construction, Inc for the Lafayette Energy Improvement Program Jennie Peterson, Economic Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Amendment #1 for the Contract with Kettelhut Construction, Inc for the Lafayette Energy Improvement Program. The amendment adds the necessary language to include CDBG funding to the program. The CDBG funding in the amount of $40,000.00 will be added to account for overages on homes that are below 80% of the median income. The additional funds will cover about twelve extra homes in the Glen Acres/Vinton Neighborhoods. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Police Department 2012 Byrne Grant Application Brad Bishop, Police Department, announced the Lafayette Police Department will be applying for the 2012 Bvrne Memorial Federal Grant. The monies granted will be used for equipment related purchases. CLAIMS Paula King, Controller’s Office, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $1,943,446.33. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety April 17, 2012 Page 2 MISCELLANTOUS Special Event Request-Candlelight Vigil & Informational Forum Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Candlelight Vigil & Informational Forum to be held on April 27, 2012 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Riehle Plaza and Big 4 Depot. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Light the Night Walk Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Light the Night Walk to be held on September 20, 2012 from 2:00pm-9:00pm at Riehle Plaza, Big 4 Depot and the John T. Myer Bridge. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-March of Dimes/March for Babies Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the March of Dimes March for Babies to be held on April 28, 2012 from 8:00am-12:00noon at the Tippecanoe Fairgrounds. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-Children’s Box Parade Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the Children’s Box Parade to be held on June 30, 2012 from 10:00am-12:00noon on 9th Street. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade to be held on May 28, 2012 from 11:30am-12:30pm. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. PUBLIC COMMENT Mrs. Murray stated that the Tuesday May 8, 2012 Board of Works meeting will be cancelled due to observance of Election Day. There being no further business to come before the Board, President Henriott stated the meeting was adjourned.
