BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES July 10, 2012 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Tilara McDonald-Treece and Norm Childress. Absent: Ron Shriner Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the July 3, 2012 regular meeting. Mrs. McDonald- Treece seconded. Passed. BID OPENING Lafayette ATMS Integration-South Street/Sagamore Pkwy This being the time set to open bids for the Lafayette ATMS Integration-South Street/Sagamore Pkwy the following bids were received and opened: Martell Electric, LLC South Bend, Indiana Base Bid: $737,414.80 Mr. Childress moved to take the bids under advisement for further review. Mrs. McDonald-Treece seconded. Passed. QUOTE OPENING Main Street and Alcoa Approach This being the time set to open quotes for the Main Street and Alcoa Approach the following quotes were received and opened: Hoosier Company, Inc Indianapolis, Indiana Quote: $39,517.00 Board of Public Works and Safety July 10, 2012 Page 2 Midwestern Electric, Inc Indianapolis, Indiana Quote: $42,838.00 Hawk Enterprises, Inc Crown Point, Indiana Quote: $43,771.50 Mr. Childress moved to take the quotes under advisement for further review. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. NEW BUSINESS Engineering Supplemental Agreement #1-Technical Assistance for Durkees Run Guaranteed Savings Contract Jenny Miller, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Supplemental Agreement #1-Technical Assistance for Durkees Run Guaranteed Savings Contract with Butler, Fairman & Seufert. The supplement is an increase to the original agreement in the amount of $1,939,400.00 which brings the total amount with a not-to-exceed in the amount of $2,127,400.00. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Economic Development Contract-Demolition for 910 Greenwich Street Dennis Carson, Economic Development Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Contract for the Demolition for 910 Greenwich Street with American Enterprises. The contract is in the amount of $4,784.00. Mrs. McDonald-Treece moved for approval subject to retirement of the gas at the street. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Notice to Proceed-Demolition for 910 Greenwich Street Mr. Carson presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Notice to Proceed for the Demolition for 910 Greenwich Street. Mrs. Murray moved for approval subject to retirement of the gas at the street. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $2,243,351.25. Mrs. McDonald-Treece moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety July 10, 2012 Page 3 MISCELLANEOUS Event Street Closure Request-2nd Annual Sweet Corn Festival Ivan Brumbaugh presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the 2nd Annual Sweet Corn Festival to be held on July 29, 2012 from 9:00am-6:00pm on Main Street between 9th and 11th Streets. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. McDonald-Treece seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-Hands on Trucks President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for hands on Trucks to be held on August 25, 2012 from 7:00am-5:00pm at Imagination Station. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-MDA Fill the Boot Chris Conklin, Lafayette Firefighter and MDA Representative, presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the MDA Fill the Boots to be held on August 17, 18 & 19, 2012 during the daylight hours. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. PUBLIC COMMENT Ken McCammon stated that on Saturday July 14, 2012 the next Mosey Down Main Street will be held from 6:00pm-12:00midnight. Mr. McCammon stated that this Mosey is themed “Mosey Gras” with a car show, shrimp and crawfish boil, various Cajun foods, Mardi Gras type drinks, the annual hotdog eating contest and giving away beads as supplies last. The public is invited to attend. There being no further business to come before the Board, President Henriott stated the meeting was adjourned.
