BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
MINUTES
November 20, 2012
Regular Session:
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 9:00
a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Cindy Murray, Gary Henriott, Ron
Shriner, Tilara McDonald-Treece and Norm Childress.
Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present.
President Henriott called the meeting to order.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country.
MINUTES
Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the November 13, 2012 regular meeting. Mrs.
McDonald-Treece seconded. Passed.
BID UNDER ADVISEMENT
Triple Combination Pumper Fire Apparatus
President Henriott stated that this item will remain under advisement.
NEW BUSINESS
Engineering
Permission to Advertise-All Structures Demolition located at 214 Ellsworth, 1311 Morton Street and
3332 Brady Lane
Jenny Miller, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Permission
to Advertise the All Structures Demolition located at 214 Ellsworth, 1311 Morton Street and 3332 Brady
Lane. The advertisement is scheduled to be published on November 30 & December 7, 2012 with the bid
opening on December 18, 2012. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed.
Community Development
Release of Covenant for Deed Restrictions-148 Wise, Lafayette Indiana
Aimee Jacobsen, Community Development Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval
of a Release of Covenant for Deed Restrictions for 148 Wise, Lafayette Indiana. Mr. Childress moved for
approval. Mrs. McDonald-Treece seconded. Passed.
CLAIMS
Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $2,434,808.26. Mr.
Childress moved for approval. Mrs. McDonald-Treece seconded. Passed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Proclamation-Small Business Saturday
The Mayor read the following Proclamation:
WHEREAS, the government of the City of Lafayette believes that small businesses are the backbone of
our economy and the glue that holds communities together; according to the United States Small Business
Administration, there are currently 28 million small businesses in the United States, they represent more
than 99 percent of American companies, create two-thirds of the net new jobs, and generate half of
private gross domestic product; and
Whereas, small businesses employ ½ of the employees in the private sector in the United States; and
WHEREAS, 93% of US consumers believe it’s important to support the local small businesses that they
value in their community and 89% agree that locally-owned, independent businesses contribute positively
through taxes and jobs; and
WHEREAS, Lafayette, Indiana supports our local businesses that create jobs, boost our local economy
and preserve our neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, advocacy groups and public and private organizations across the country have endorsed the
Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tony Roswarski, Mayor of the City of Lafayette, Indiana, do hereby proclaim,
November 24, 2012, as:
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY
And urge the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to support small
businesses and merchants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the year.
