MINUTES
October 1, 2013
Regular Session:
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in
the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Cindy Murray, Norm Childress, Gary Henriott
and Dawn Ross. Absent: Ron Shriner
Ed Chosnek, City Attorney, was also present.
President Henriott called the meeting to order.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country.
MINUTES
Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the September 24, 2013 regular meeting. Mrs. Ross
seconded. Passed.
BID UNDER ADVISEMENT
Enterprise Resource Planning System
President Henriott stated that this item will remain under advisement.
NEW BUSINESS
Engineering
Acceptance for Maintenance-Hawthorne Lakes Subdivision, Phase 2
Bob Foley, Engineering, presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Acceptance for
Maintenance for Hawthorne Lakes Subdivision Phase 2. This project is located on the east side of CR 550
East, between McCarty Lane and CR 50 S. This is for sewer and water only because it is located outside
the City of Lafayette. The maintenance bond is provided by Valenti-Held in the amount of $19,854.70.
Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
Subdivision Variance-Brittany Chase
Mr. Foley presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Subdivision Variance for Brittany
Chase. The variance is to reduce the minimum required street width from 30-ft to 28-ft for Dillon Drive
and Queencastle Drive. The site is located north of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and west of Concord
Road. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed.
Community Development
Amendment #1-Agreement between Lafayette Housing Authority Consortium and Wabash Center Inc.
2006-2007 Group Homes

Valerie Oakley, Community Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of
Amendment #1 for Agreement between Lafayette Housing Authority Consortium and Wabash Center Inc
2006-2007 Group Homes. The HOME regulations require new construction rental projects to have at least
twenty year affordability periods. This amendment changes the agreement from 15 years to 20 years. Mrs.
Ross moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed.
Release of Mortgage-1011 Heath Street, Lafayette Indiana
Mrs. Oakley presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Release of Mortgage for 1011 Heath
Street. The mortgage was paid off. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
Water Works
2013 Fall Flushing Schedule
Kerry Smith, Water Works Superintendent, announce that fall flushing would begin Sunday October 6,
2013 for two weeks from 10:00pm-6:00am on Sunday-Thursday. If you have any concerns to call the
Water Works plant at 765-807-1700.
CLAIMS
Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $588,962.73. President
Henriott asked if there were any further questions other than the ones that were asked and answered in
caucus, there were none. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
MISCELLANEOUS
Special Event Request-Bras Across the Wabash
President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for Bras
Across the Wabash to be held on October 29, 2013 from 6:00pm-8:00pm on the John T. Meyer Bridge.
Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed.
Taxi Cab Permit
David Payne, Deputy Chief of Police, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a taxi cab
permit for Craig Stephenson and Christopher Collier. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross
seconded. Passed.
Economic Development Announcement-Ashley Scott
Dennis Carson, Economic Development Director, announced that MatchBOX LLC is fully under
construction and plans to be done by the end of the year and open up the facility the first quarter of 2014.
Mr. Carson announced Ashley Scott as the Operations Manager for MatchBOX LLC. Ashley Scott stated
that she is really excited to get started. Ms. Scott gave a little of her background, work history and
achievements. The Board welcomed Ms. Scott.
