BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES July 22, 2014 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Ron Shriner, Cindy Murray, Norm Childress and Dawn Ross. Absent: Gary Henriott Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. Mrs. Murray called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Childress moved for approval of the minutes from the July 15, 2014 regular meeting. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. NEW BUSINESS Purchasing Declaration of Surplus/Worthless Property Rick Morrissey, Purchasing Manager, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Declaration of Surplus/Worthless Property for Fleet Maintenance. Mr. Morrissey stated that the list is a continuation of the clean-up in inventory previously addressed. Items that can be turned in for scrap as surplus property will be taken to Oscar Winski for disposal. The remaining items will be deemed worthless property and disregarded. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Economic Development Shelter Plus Care Contract-IHCDA Adam Murphy, Weed & Seed Coordinator, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Shelter Plus Care Contract with IHCDA. This contract will provide continuance of rental assistance for 20 persons who are certified as chronically homeless with a co-existing disability, such as mental illness, substance abuse and/or HIV/AIDS. The contract is in the amount of $148,320.00 in rental assistance for the next year, with additional administrative funding of $7,983.00. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $642,852.63. Mrs. Murray asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety July 22, 2014 Page 2 MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-Hanna Fest Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for Hanna Fest to be held on August 16, 2014 from 12:00pm-5:00pm at the Hanna Center with part of N. 18th Street closed in front of the Center. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Hands on Trucks Brian Bettag, Event Representative, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for Hands on Trucks to be held on August 23, 2014 from10:00am-3:00pm located at 4th and Cincinnati Streets. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Street Performing Competition Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for a Street Performing Competition to be held on August 1, 2014 from 10:00am-2:00pm at Riehle Plaza. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mrs. Murray stated that Mayor Roswarski was a shining star at the GE Aviation ground breaking this week. Mrs. Murray stated that they are very proud of our community and thanked the Mayor and Dennis Carson for all of their hard work on the project.
