BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES August 19, 2014 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Norm Childress, Dawn Ross and Ron Shriner Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Childress moved for approval of the minutes from the August 12, 2014 regular meeting. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. NEW BUSINESS Engineering Permission to Advertise-Sagamore Parkway Reconstruction, Phase 2 Jenny Leshney, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Permission to Advertise for the Sagamore Parkway Reconstruction Phase 2. Phase 2 will be from Beech Drive south to Home Depot with a bid opening date on September 23, 2014. Mrs. Leshney stated that the project will start with water main relocation, storm drainage in the center medians with the full pavement not taking place until the spring of 2015. Mrs. Leshney stated that there is a website for the project: restoresagamore.com. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Community Development Release of Covenant for Deed Restrictions-208 S. 6th Street, 211 Ellsworth, 114 Kinkaid Drive, 118 Kinkaid Drive, 127 Kinkaid Drive, 131 Kinkaid Drive, 138 Kinkaid Drive, 142 Kinkaid Drive, 146, Kinkaid Drive, 151 Kinkaid Drive, 155 Kinkaid Drive, 900 Queen Street, 912 Queen Street, 1005 Queen Street, 201 Ravine Street, 3202 Turnbull, 3206 Turnbull, 3207 Turnbull, 3214 Turnbull, 201 Washington Street, 1120 Washington Street, 1315 Washington Street, 144 Wise Drive and 152 Wise Drive Aimee Jacobsen, Community Development Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Release of Covenant for Deed Restrictions for 208 S. 6th Street, 211 Ellsworth, 114 Kinkaid Drive, 118 Kinkaid Drive, 127 Kinkaid Drive, 131 Kinkaid Drive, 138 Kinkaid Drive, 142 Kinkaid Drive, 146, Kinkaid Drive, 151 Kinkaid Drive, 155 Kinkaid Drive, 900 Queen Street, 912 Queen Street, 1005 Queen Street, 201 Ravine Street, 3202 Turnbull, 3206 Turnbull, 3207 Turnbull, 3214 Turnbull, 201 Washington Street, 1120 Washington Street, 1315 Washington Street, 144 Wise Drive and 152 Wise Drive. Mrs. Jacobsen stated that the following 24 properties received HOME funding through Habitat for Humanity. Either by satisfying the period of affordability or transfer of the property through sale or foreclosure, the Board of Public Works and Safety August 19, 2014 Page 2 City no longer has a lien interest in the properties. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $1,479,766.25. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-Fill the Boot Chris Conklin, Fire Department, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for Fill the Boot to be held on August 22-24, 2014 from 8:00am-8:00pm at the various Fire Department locations. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-Today Homes Condominium Association Block Party President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Today Homes Condominium Association Block Party to be held on September 13, 2014 from 4:30pm- 8:00pm on Hanover Drive. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-First Free Methodist Block Party President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the First Free Methodist Block Party to be held on September 13, 2014 from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Jackson Street. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Proclamation-White Castle and Shriner Hospitals for Children Day The Mayor read the following proclamation: White Castle and Shriner Hospitals for Children Day WHEREAS, Shriners Hospitals for Children is a normal non-profit organization committed to giving children the opportunity to live a more normal life; WHEREAS, Shriners Hospitals for Children gives children the opportunity to receive treatment for orthopedic problems, severe burns and spinal cord injuries and provides them with a head start in developing a normal life, regardless of the patients ability to pay, that is essential to becoming successful and contributing adults; WHEREAS, on August 20, 2014, Shriners Hospitals for Children and White Castle will join together to encourage people to donate to Shriners Hospitals for Children activities in our city; BE IT RESOLVED, I, Tony Roswarski, Mayor of Lafayette, in recognition of this important event, do hereby claim August 20, 2014, in Lafayette as “White Castle and Shriners Hospitals for Children Day”. Board of Public Works and Safety August 19, 2014 Page 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS Mayor Roswarski talked about and gave details regarding the phase 2 portion of the work that will being on Sagamore Parkway. The Mayor encouraged everyone to visit the website: restoresagamore.com for updates and time schedules for the project.
