BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES March 29, 2016 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Ron Shriner, Dawn Ross and Norm Childress. Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Childress moved for approval of the minutes from the March 22, 2016 regular meeting. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. BIDS UNDER ADVISEMENT Beckenham Trail President Henriott stated that this item will remain under advisement. OLD BUSINESS Contract-Old Romney Road Street Tree Planting Project President Henriott stated that this item will remain tabled. NEW BUSINESS Engineering Construction Inspection Services Contract with BFS-Beckenham Trail Jenny Leshney, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Construction Inspection Services Contract with Butler, Fairman & Seufert for the Beckenham Trail Project. The contract is on an hourly basis, not to exceed $49,580.00. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $364,418.04. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety March 29, 2016 Page 2 MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-‘Round the Fountain Art Fair President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the ‘Round the Fountain Art Fair to be held on May 28th, 2016 from 6:00am-6:00pm on the Courthouse Square in downtown Lafayette. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. ANNOUNCMENTS President Henriott announced the death of Randy Mudrich who worked in the Water Works Department for 24 years. President Henriott asked the audience to remember his family and all the Randy did for the City of Lafayette. 2016 Spring Hydrant Flushing Schedule Kerry Smith, Water Works Superintendent, announced that the Lafayette Water Works will begin flushing hydrants on Sunday, April 3, 2016 between the hours of 10pm and 6am, continuing each night with the exceptions of Friday and Saturday evenings, through Friday, April 15, 2016. Customers may experience some discolored water. If this occurs, let the cold-water tap run for a few minutes and it should clear up. If a problem continues, please call us at 807-1700 or 807-1100. Engineering Excellence Award-Durkee's Run Interceptor & Earl Avenue Reconstruction Project President Henriott stated that this award will be announced next week. Lafayette Fire Department Fire Chief, Richard Doyle, announced that following the Board of Works meeting will be a promotion ceremony for five (5) firemen. Chief Doyle invited the audience to stay for the ceremony and then light refreshments at Fire Headquarters following the ceremony.
