BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
MINUTES
March 21, 2017
Regular Session:
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in
the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Norm Childress and Dawn Ross.
Absent: Cindy Murray and Ron Shriner
Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present.
President Henriott called the meeting to order.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country.
MINUTES
Mrs. Ross moved for approval of the minutes from the March 14, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Childress
seconded. Passed.
NEW BUSINESS
Economic Development
Change Order #16-Main Street Streetscape Phase I & II
John Collier, Economic Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Change
Order #16 for Main Street Streetscape Phase I & II. The change order is in the amount of $43,455.47 and
includes additional construction and engineering to address the void/basement under the sidewalk of the
building at 226 N. 6th Street. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
Change Order #17-Main Street Streetscape Phase I & II
Mr. Collier presented to the Board and recommended approval of Change Order #17 for Main Street
Streetscape Phase I & II. The change order is in the amount of $870.00 and includes additional
construction work to grind heaved sidewalks in areas surrounding the project area to reduce tripping
hazards. This change order brings the revised contract amount to $4,638,638.89. Mrs. Ross moved for
approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed.
CLAIMS
Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $3,413,891.44. President
Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Childress moved for
approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
MISCELLANEOUS
Special Event Request-Bike to Work Day

President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for Bike
to Work Day to be held on May 19, 2017 from 8:00am-10:00am at the John T. Myers Bridge. Mrs. Ross
moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed.
Special Event Request-Jeff HS Grand March/After Prom
President Henriott stated that the Board has additional questions and concerns that need to be addressed.
Mr. Childress moved to table this item. Mrs. Ross seconded. Tabled.
Proclamation-Severe Weather and Flood Preparedness Week
Mayor Roswarski read the following proclamation:
Severe Weather and Flood Preparedness Week
March 19th-25th, 2017
WHEREAS: The months of March through June present the highest risk for severe thunderstorms and
tornadoes to strike Tippecanoe County; and
WHEREAS: Tippecanoe County is located within the nation’s “Tornado Belt”, becoming a prime
target for devastating tornado outbreaks and other types of severe weather; and
WHEREAS: A statewide tornado warning exercise will be held on March 21, 2017 at 10:10AM and
7:35 PM EDT for the purpose of testing communications systems, equipment and
procedures; and
WHEREAS: During this week, the Tippecanoe County Emergency Management is emphasizing its
safety procedures involving tornado activity
NOW, THEREFORE,
We, the undersigned, do hereby proclaim the week of March 19th through March 25th,
2017 as
SEVERE WEATHER AND FLOOD PREPAREDNESS WEEK
In Tippecanoe County and encourage all citizens to become aware of tornado danger
signs, and to learn how to safeguard the lives of their families, friends, and citizenry in
the event of severe weather activity in our area.
