MINUTES OF THE LAFAYETTE COMMON COUNCIL May 6th, 2024 REGULAR MEETING (https://www.youtube.com/user/CityofLafayetteIN/live The Common Council of the City of Lafayette, Indiana met in regular session Monday, May 6, 2024 at 6:00 pm. In the Common Council Chamber at 20. N 6th Street. President Snyder called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance Present: Klinker, Nargi, Snyder, Hession Weiss, Reynolds, Brown, Ahlersmeyer, Weast- Williamson, Downing City Clerk Cindy Murray and City Attorney Jacque Chosnek were present. Public Hearing: Councilmember Klinker moved to recess for a public hearing on Ordinance 2024-17 (An Ordinance Vacating A Portion Of Maiden Lane In The City Of Lafayette, Indiana) Councilmember Nargi seconded. No public comment was heard. Councilmember Klinker moved to reconvene the regular meeting. Councilmember Nargi seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Approval Of Minutes Councilmember Reynolds moved to approve the minutes of the April 1, 2024, meeting. Councilmember Hession Weiss seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Lloyd Wells, 3717 Rawlings Dr., asked questions pertaining to the Ordinance. David Theime, Owner of Theime and Wagner, spoke regarding the Ordinance and asked questions about the expansion of it through downtown. Ordinance 2024-28 passed 8-0 on a roll call vote on first reading. The Clerk Read 2024-29 (An Ordinance Of The City Of Lafayette Authorizing Advance Payment Of Certain Expenditures) by title on first reading. Resolutions The Clerk read Resolution 2024-17 (Resolution Authorizing Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation To Expand A Vanpool Program Outside The Boundaries Of Tippecanoe County To Name County) by title on first and final reading. Councilmember Klinker moved for passage; Councilmember Nargi seconded. Brian Smith, CEO of City Bus, spoke regarding this Resolution. Resolution 2024-17 passed 8-0 on a roll call vote on first and final reading. No Reports of Standing Committees No Reports of Special Committees Report by the Mayor: The mayor read the proclamation below; Greater Lafayette Bike Month & Bike to Work Day 2024 Proclamation Whereas For more than a century, the bicycle has been an important part of the lives of most Americans; and Whereas Today, millions of Americans engage in bicycling as an environmentally sound form of transportation, an excellent way of gaining and maintaining fitness, and a means of promoting quality family recreation; Whereas The education of both cyclists and motorists as to the rights of cyclists to the public roadways, and the responsibilities thereby assumed, are important to ensure the safety of both cyclists and motorists; and Whereas Bicycle groups throughout our nation, state, and city are promoting greater public awareness of bicycle operation and safety education in an effort to reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities; Whereas Greater Lafayette is a growing, thriving community with transportation and recreation demands; NOW THEREFORE  Tracy Brown, representing the Tippecanoe County Commissioners, Mayor Tony Roswarski and Mayor Erin Easter, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2024 as GREATER LAFAYETTE INDIANA BIKE MONTH, and the day of May 17th, 2024, as GREATER LAFAYETTE INDIANA BIKE TO WORK DAY, and command their observance to all citizens in the Greater Lafayette area. Myles Holtsclaw, Economic Development Department/ Bicycle pedestrian advisory committee, spoke regarding bicycle infrastructure and our designation level.
