LAFAYETTE HEARING AUTHORITY May 20, 2014 The Lafayette Hearing Authority met on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers of Lafayette City Hall. Present were: Cindy Murray and Ron Shriner. Absent: Gary Henriott Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy Attorney, was also present. Mr. Shriner called the meeting to order. MINUTES Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the March 18, 2014 minutes. Mr. Shriner seconded. Motion Carried. NEW BUSINESS Request to Change Remaining Meeting Dates for 2014 Lafayette Hearing Authority Mr. Shriner stated that there is a need to change the remainder of the 2014 meeting dates due to conflicting schedules. The Board decided to change July 15 to July 8, September 16 to September 9 and November 18 to November 25, 2014. Order to Comply and Notice to Appear at Demolition Hearing-1325 Central Street Scott Dieterle, Engineering Office, stated that it is a single car garage that is owned by William and Jeri Bormann. Mr. Dieterle sent a letter to the owners and has not received any communication from them. The garage fascia in falling off, shingles are deteriorating, the door will not shut, vegetation growing from the inside out and holes in the siding. Mr. Dieterle recommended demolition of the garage. Mrs. Chosnek stated that the property owners were served notice of the order for demolition by regular mail sent out on April 25, 2014. Mrs. Murray moved to affirm the order for demolition. Mr. Shriner seconded. Motion Carried. Order to Comply and Notice to Appear at Demolition Hearing-617 New York Street Mr. Dieterle stated that he has had numerous complaints from the neighbors and the concern regarding the historic value. Mrs. Chosnek stated that this property was sold at tax sale. The tax sale certificate purchaser did petition Superior Court #2 to approve the issuance of a tax deed which has been issued by the Tippecanoe County Auditor but the deed has not been recorded yet. Therefore, there is new interested party that has not received notice of the order of demolition. Mrs. Chosnek recommended continuing this until the next meeting and will attempt to contact the tax sale certificate purchaser about when they intend on recording their deed. Mrs. Murray moved to continue this order. Mr. Shriner seconded. Motion Carried. Sam Bovio, 626 New York Street, stated that this house has been abandoned and vacant since he started living across the street about 6 years. The neighborhoods have banded together and tried to keep the house secure along with invested some monies into it to help stop the deterioration of the property. The neighbors have trimmed and cleared the lot of brush to allow for sun and air to the property. Mr. Bovio is in support of not demolishing the structure.
