~ LAFAYETTE ~ MINUTES OF THE LAFAYETIE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION December 19, 2022 7:00 pm Council Chambers, City Hall Attendance Commission Members: John Burns, Julie Ginn, Kevin Klinker, Sean Lutes, Shawna McCully, Amy Paget, Stephanie Rogers, Glen Vick Staff in Attendance: John Collier, Economic Development; Michelle Conwell, Economic Development; Dann Keiser Others in Attendance: Barry Knechtel, KJG Architecture; Alec Williams, Heartland Concept; Tom Gall, Integrate-Build Call to Order Noting a quorum, President Sean Lutes called the meeting of the Lafayette Historic Preservation Commission to order at 7:00 pm. Approval of the Minutes Kevin Klinker moved to recommend approval ofthe November 21,2022 meeting minutes. Shawna seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. New Business Public Relations and Education Committee-No report District Committee-No report COA Committee 800 Main St. - Removal/replacement of garage and 2nd floor exterior modifications Sean Lutes introduced this petition, submitted by Barry Knechtel of KJG Architecture and owned by Dustin Zufall. This project will include removing the existing garage on the northeast side of the building to construct a larger garage with loft and outdoor rooftop patio with a turf portion for a dog run. The new two car garage will have stairs going up to the loft floor which will provide the apartment with private access to the garage and rooftop patio. Aluminum railing will surround the patio and dog run. A new garage door and metal door will be installed on the first floor and a large sliding glass French door will be installed at the garage loft level to access the patio. Exterior finishes will include brick, fiber cement siding, and a new TPO roof. The COA Committee recommended conditional approval pending all sides of the first floor garage have a brick veneer and the garage door and exterior door on first floor match in color. The COA submitted addressed the COA Committee's concerns. John Burns made a motion to approve the petition, Kevin Klinker seconded. The motion passed unanimously. 800 Main St. - Modification to door facing 8th St. Sean Lutes introduced this petition, submitted by Barry Knechtel of KJG Architecture and owned by Rick Li. This project is for modification of an existing set of wooden exterior doors and an addition of a new exterior door on the first floor level facing 8th St. The entrance is the original 1860s access. The doors are for residential entry being modified for security reasons. This COA reflects recommendations by the COA Committee that the original wooden doors be restored and maintained in an open position (much like the Tippecanoe County Court House) and install new doors behind them. The proposal also mainta ins the existing step and stoop at this 8th St. entry. John Burns made a motion to approve the petition, Shawna McCully seconded . The motion passed unanimously. Staff Report Three Commissioners 3-year terms have ended: Sean Lutes, Patti Morgan and Glen Vick. Sean will remain on the Commission, Glen and Patti have opted to step down from the Commission . John Collier thanked them both for their time, expertise and service during their 6-years of service on the Historic Preservation Commission. New Commissioners will be appointed and announced at the January Comm ission meeting. Public Comment No public comments were received. Adjournment There being no further business to bring before the Commission, Kevin Klinker moved to adjourn the meeting. Shawna McCully seconded the motion . The motion passed unanimously and the meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was adjourned at 7:09 pm.
