Lafayette HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION APR 25, 2013 5:30 pm Board of Works Room -- City Hall NOTES Attendance: Carina Atherton-Childress X Bryan Bell (CH) C J Brown X Cheryl Harmon (VC)X Christy Jones Dewayne Moffitt (C) X Jamille Palacios Randy Studt (SEC) X Joel Wright X Staff: Aimee Jacobsen X Jacque Chosnek – legal Guests: 1. Call to Order: 5:30 PM – Dewayne Moffitt – Chair Asked for a moment of silence for Boston. 2. Approve Minutes – (JAN 2013) Submitted by Bryan Bell Move – Wright/ Second – Studt - approved Changes – Chair of the Ordinance committee was undetermined. 3. Review Complaints since last meeting: NONE 4. Old Business : Training Committee– Moffitt /Atherton-Childress – The updated copy of Procedures from the January meeting was sent to members. Jacque passed along that she needs to be brought into the loop about this document, before we finalize or vote on this. Moved that Jacque should review the proposed procedures to highlight any discrepancies with the law before the committee proceeds. Studt/ 2nd Wright Bryan has a redlined copy to pass along to the committee. Aimee passed along the Current Policies and Procedures for our perusal including a flow chart which we amended. Business Cards were passed out. Ordinance Committee – Bell/ Atherton-Childress/ Studt - Bryan is trying to get a meeting with Skye Brown heading TransLafayette – to see where this can head. Outreach and Promotions Committee: Atherton-Childress/ Jones / Moffitt /Palacios WLFI contact Jamie Jackson – will be contacted again to talk about the commissions and promote the HRCs. Dewayne and CJ, with Bryan in reserve. 7. New Business: Forum? - Margie Deverall – contacted Dewayne to suggest involvement from the three HRCs to explore the HJR6 issue. Also passed along the flyer for the video "In-Laws and Out-Laws" for Sun, May 5 at 1-4 PM at the Columbia Ballroom. Breakfast suggestion: Dewayne made the suggestion that we might meet in the in-between time to discuss the current issues. Informal meetings – because only four can meet at one time – otherwise the press must be invited. Sub-Committee: Festival OUTfest – Aug _____ – Downtown Main Street Global Fest – Sep ____ – Morton Center Hanna Fest – Sep _____ – Hanna Center Latino Fest – Spring? – IVY Tech We need to get this paperwork set up for the summer. Bryan will send an email to Jamille about the banner – and will contact the other commissions to get the booth spaces set up. 40th Annual Indiana Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies training session – we have one space for someone to attend. The ICRC has offered to pay for the conference fees and three night stay in Indianapolis on JUN 25-28. Carina will check to see if she can go.
