NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION JANUARY 23, 2020 Council Chambers City Hall MINUTES 1. Call meeting to order – 12.01 p.m. Stephen called meeting to order a. Roll Call – Chad Aldridge, Mary Alyce Koning Bolinger, Susan Brouillette, Michelle Reynolds, Stephen Smith, Joel Wright, Megan Thompson, City of Lafayette b. Approval of October 24, 2019 Minutes i. Mary Alyce made motion, Chad made motion, minutes approved. 2. Old business Stephen provided update regarding Joint HRC meetings. Joint HRC (+ Diversity Roundtable) meetings are held at West Lafayette City Hall (temporary location) from 4:30 – 5:30 and are scheduled for the following dates: March 4, 2020 June 3, 2020 September 2, 2020 December 2, 2020 Stephen reported that the HRC representatives are working on a name and objectives for the organization. Reiterated that it is hoped that each commission will have 2 representatives at the meeting with a minimum of 8. The thought being that the representatives would be chair and the vice chair. Stephen and Kara attended these meetings last year. Other people will be invited to attend who have special knowledge and/or expertise regarding issues/topics relevant to the organization’s activities. 3. New Business Stephen asked if there were any complaints. Megan stated that one complaint was in process. Megan has reached out to them to let them know what needs to be done to move forward. Another complaint was received this week but it does not appear that the Human Relations Commission would have any authority to investigate the complaint. Michelle shared that the Lafayette Housing Authority received the results of Fair Housing Equal Opportunity (FHED) review. HUD made comments regarding LHA’s outreach efforts specifically with regard to website and accessibility. Michelle will provide copy of HUD letter to commission members. 4. Member Updates (festivals, website brochures) 5. Staff Report a. Megan reported that city had printed additional Spanish and English brochures. b. There was consensus that commission members would try to distribute to the following locations: Lafayette Legal Aid, Riggs Community Health Center, Latino Center for Wellness and Education, YWCA, Lafayette Urban Ministry, and LARA. 6.
