REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 21 October 2019 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting, October 21, 2019, at 4:00pm in the Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Dave Mecklenburg. Board members present were Maurie Denney and Pat Corey. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, and Recording Secretary Carlynn Smith were present. Parks staff members present were Chad Aldridge, Mike Perry, Kurt Wolf, and Neil Dale. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Corey, and unanimously carried, minutes of the September 16, 2019 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, claims in the amount of $162,654.97 were approved. Superintendent’s Report:  Jon Miner provided a summary of 2019 attendance and revenues at Tropicanoe Cove, Castaway Bay, and Vinton Pool. An attendance record was set at Tropicanoe Cove.  Superintendent Laufman provided updates on the following projects: o Loeb Stadium: The footprint of the stadium is apparent. Photos depicting construction progress are being shared weekly via social media. o Crosser Sports Complex: The walking trail and playground are complete. Some additional work on the fence needs to occur, and Tempest has a punch list of items to be completed. A dedication for the facility will take place next spring. o Carousel: A design meeting was held earlier in the day. Concept drawings were shared. The next steps are to determine the design and cost projections. A 2020 mid-summer completion date is expected. o Murdock Booster Station: Excavation continues at the site where the softball field was located. o Memorial Island: Superintendent Laufman explained the process for dredging the bottom of the lagoon, which is expected to take approximately six weeks. o McAllister Recreation Center playground: The old equipment has been dismantled and removed. It’s expected that site preparation and construction of the new equipment will take 7-8 weeks to complete.  Zoo Director Neil Dale spoke about Boo at the Zoo preparations. The annual event will be held October 23, 24, and 25. Over 600 tickets have already been purchased online. He also gave an update regarding progress in the construction of the penguin exhibit. Park Board Meeting October 21, 2019 Page 1 of 2 New Business:  Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Corey, and unanimously carried, the Board approved Resolution 19-04: the 2020 General Fund Budget (Attachment A).  Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, Resolution 19-05: the 2020 Holiday Schedule was passed. (Attachment B) Declaration of Surplus Property:  Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Ms. Corey, and unanimously carried, pieces of old playground equipment from McAllister Recreation Center were declared surplus property. (Attachment C) Communications:  Board member Mr. Denney reported hearing positive comments about Columbian Park from a gentleman who lives near and spends a lot of time in the park.
