REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 6 July 2020 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, July 6, 2020 via virtual “gotomeeting” which was livestreamed through City of Lafayette’s Youtube channel. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members present were Pat Corey, Dave Mecklenburg and Matt Metzger. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. All votes will be taken via roll call. Upon motion by Dave Mecklenburg, seconded by Pat Corey, and unanimously carried, minutes of the June 22, 2020 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Matt Metzger, seconded by Pat Corey, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $6,853.51, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $18,842.86 and Bond Fund Claims in the amount of $462,984.38 for a total of $488,680.75 were approved. Superintendent’s Report  Superintendent Laufman reported that the Zoo remains open at 50% capacity. COVID procedures going well with patrons. The filtration issue at the Penguin exhibit has been corrected. Pouring footers for the carousel. The 4th of July holiday week was a little slow. Merrell Brothers using fire hoses to move sludge to low point for removal from the lagoon. Will be bringing in a specialized excavator with buoyant track to remove sediment next week.  Director of Operations Miner reported on Aquatics. Revenue at Tropicanoe Cove is down year over year, while both Castaway Bay and Vinton Pool are ahead of last year’s total. Of note is that the Cove has had 17 less operating days this summer due to the Corona virus. Concessions are also down year over year, but given the situation, pleased with turnout.
