REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
20 July 2020
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, July 20,
2020 via virtual “gotomeeting” which was livestreamed through City of Lafayette’s Youtube
channel.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members
present were Pat Corey, Dave Mecklenburg and Matt Metzger. Parks Superintendent Claudine
Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, City
Controller Tim Clary and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. All votes will be
taken via roll call.
Upon motion by Pat Corey, seconded by Dave Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, minutes
of the July 6, 2020 Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Dave Mecklenburg, seconded by Pat Corey, and unanimously carried, General
Fund Claims in the amount of $90,870.36, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of
$20,470.52 for a total of $111,340.88 were approved.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Laufman reported that the Penguin Exhibit is coming along. COVID has
made logistics and meetings difficult with parties out of state. Permit is set to come off
the Federal Registry on Monday, July 27. Will then move to the next step in permitting
process. The Carousel has footers poured, columns about to be poured and the storm
water drain is being installed. The south lagoon is almost finished with sediment
removal. Will begin to mobilize team to start draining north lagoon.
Director of Operations Miner reported on Loeb Stadium. The masonry continues to go
up. Third base dugouts taking shape. Over next couple of weeks grading will begin for
turf to be installed later in the fall. In addition, Jon reported that Tropicanoe Cove has
been open 33 days with average attendance of 799/day. Castaway Bay and Vinton Pool
have been opened 51 days with averages of 194/day and 138/day respectively.
Concessions have generated about $80,000. Opening of McAllister playground went
well today.
New Business
Upon motion of Matt Metzger, seconded by Pat Corey unpaid leave for Addyson Hicks
was approved via unanimous roll call vote.

Upon motion of Dave Mecklenburg, seconded by Pat Corey and unanimously carried via
roll call vote, the large mural /painting from Jenks Rest was deemed worthless property.
Financial Report
City Controller Tim Clary spoke briefly on time frame of interim draw from the County.
Next year’s budget will need worked on soon.
Communications:
Board: Mr. Mecklenburg commended Jon Miner on his Rotary Club presentation and
Ms. Corey appreciated the dedication ceremony for the new playground at McCallister
Rec Center.

Dave Mecklenburg, unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:18 pm.
