Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Laufman handed the floor to Marketing Manager Samantha Haville who
provided a summary of events and social media efforts. There were two Art in the Park
events held at Armstrong Park. The first with just over 400 attendees and 570 at the
second. Working with the Tippecanoe County Health Department on safety measures
created a great environment. Other successful events included two opening ceremonies.
One for the new playground at McAllister and the second for the Harmony playground at
Armstrong Park. In addition Samantha updated the Board on the Virtual Zoo Run Run to
be held this year July 24 – August 24. There are 130 registrants this year so far. The
Park’s social media presence continues to rise with increases in Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram followers.
Superintendent Laufman updated on the many projects in progress. Capital City Fencing
has been working to section off their area of work. There is no update on the Penguin
Permit. The concrete pad is being poured for the Carousel. Workers are finishing demo
on Memorial Island. All sediment has been removed from the south lagoon. Ended with
depth of 9ft. JR Kelly Company is working on the seawall. Dredging continues in the
north lagoon. Less wildlife due to shallowness of lagoon.
Director of Operations Miner reported on Loeb Stadium. The light poles are now up.
Removal of equipment on the playing field will occur over next couple of weeks in order
for grading to begin for turf to be installed later in the fall. In addition, Jon reported on
close of the Aquatics season. All pools closed August 9th. The decision was made with
concern for staff and students returning to schools in 2 weeks. As seen in attachment, the
pools had a successful season. Will have final numbers when the last few outstanding

invoices are paid. Concessions reported $110,656.03 in revenue. Pool Staff have been
contacting season pass holders to determine whether they choose to continue 2020 pass
through the 2021 season, or receive a 30% refund. Most are choosing to continue their
passes.
Declaration of Surplus Property
Upon motion of Dave Mecklenburg, seconded by Pat Corey and unanimously carried via
roll call vote, the American alligator will be deemed surplus in order to be relocated to a
more suitable environment.
