REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 18 October 2021 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, October 18, 2021. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order at 4:00pm by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members present were Dave Mecklenburg, and Matt Metzger and Pat Corey. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, City Controller Jeremy Diehl, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Security Director Kurt Wolf, Zoo Director Neil Dale, McAllister Rec Center Program Director Tyler Laufman, Events Coordinator Bridgett Haro and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the September 20, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $91,390.35, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $10,114.68 and beautification funds of $1,299.92 for a total of $102,804.95 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Superintendent Laufman introduced Lafayette Aviator’s General Manager, David Krakower to provide an end of season report. Over 40,000 fans were in attendance providing over $200,000 in ticket sales and over $1,000,000 in total revenue ($600,000 was previous high). Superintendent Laufman expressed her thanks for the partnership with the Aviators staff. Mr. Mecklenburg also commented on the professionalism with the staff. A brief conversation ensued. • Events Coordinator Haro provided an update on Social Media numbers. Boo at the Zoo is approaching. Media coverage with Star City News, J & C and others. She will be partnering with Instagram’s “All the Things Lafayette” Takeover Tuesday. McAllister is holding it’s first Fall Festival on Halloween from 12pm – 4pm. Ms. Haro then introduced Events Intern Bethany Wagoner. • Program Coordinator for McAllister Rec Center Tyler Laufman gave additional details for Fall Festival. It is a free day for the public with bounce houses, a fire truck, crafts, balloon art, candy, and games. Not sure of expectation of guests, Facebook says 330 interested, weather will be a determining factor. • Zoo Director, Neil Dale provide an update on Boo at the Zoo donations and pre- sales. Cash sponsorships are up to almost $15k, with in-kind donations of $8,700. There will be a pumpkin give-away, concessions, Mary Lou donuts, games, six treat stops and a total of five 3-hour sessions to attend. • Project Manager Garrett Gaskins introduced Travis Gastbury, Volunteer Coordinator of the Latter-Day Saints Church. His group has volunteered Park Board Minutes 10/18/2021 Page 1 hundreds of hours this season to install plants, trees and sod. Their work is recognized and appreciated. Mr. Gastbury expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve. • Superintendent Laufman updated the board that the Columbian Park Restroom project had footers poured as of Friday. Ms. Corey inquired about the penguins. All have re-integrated and are getting along well. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, Resolution 21-02 General Fund Budget for 2022 was approved. (See Attachment A) • City Controller Diehl offered to answer questions on preliminary budget. The council adopted a 5% raise for City employees. Health insurance premiums remained essentially flat. Fuel increases, natural gas increases were a topic of discussion.
