REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 14 February 2022 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, February 14, 2022. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board Vice-President, Matt Metzger. Board members present were Maurie Denney and Dave Mecklenburg. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Zoo Education Director Amber Frederick, McAllister Recreation Center Manager Chad Aldridge, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Bridgett Haro and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, corrected minutes of the December 13, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, minutes of the January 10, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $84,163.79, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $20,413.00 for a total of $107,576.79 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Superintendent Laufman commended team on recent snow removal efforts; both in the Parks and helping Street Dept. with all night shifts. The Zoo staff won the Star City award and attended a luncheon in January where they were awarded 4th place overall for 2021. • Marketing Manager Samantha Haville began with a media update. There was a press release for the Zoo Teen program. The Journal & Courier interviewed Tyler Laufman regarding the Father/Daughter Dance. The Fun Guide is at the printer. Dates and location for Art in the Park dates and themes have been set. A Social Media update was also provided. • Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Bridgett Haro gave an update on the minor renovations taking place at Rush Pavilion. Date has been set for Spring Movie Night on April 17 at Loeb Stadium. • Superintendent Laufman provided a project update for the Columbian Park Restrooms. Completion is set for the end of March. The shingles are on and masonry starts this week. There will be a fieldstone exterior. • Director of Operations Miner discussed the Cat Park All-Inclusive Field. Value engineering recommendations received. An alternate design for the dugouts was Park Board Minutes 2/14/2022 Page 1 accepted. Renew has storm lines to put in as well. Completion date set for mid- June. Mr. Mecklenburg inquired on the contract price, which Mr. Miner confirmed. • Zoo Education Director Amber Frederick spoke about the Zoo Teen program. Applications are due March 4. All fifteen summer camps are 100% full. Spring Break Camp is 75% full. • McAllister Recreation Manager Chad Aldridge thanked Maintenance Department for help in clearing road for Father/Daughter Dance carriage rides. Both sessions of the dance were at capacity. There were volunteers from National Honor Society and Delta Zeta Sorority for the dance. Summer Camp has 129 registrants, compared to 42 at this time last year. Still looking for summer counselors, but have nine returning. Registration opens for Spring Break camp and Sporties for Shorties on Monday. • Mr. Mecklenburg asked the status of the penguins. Ms. Frederick answered that they are stable and within normal weight ranges. Mr. Mecklenburg then inquired about the time frame for the Carousel. Ms. Laufman stated contract dates, but there have been some pandemic related delays. A brief discussion around the project ensued. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, Declaration of Surplus property was approved (See Attachment A).
