REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 13 June 2022 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, June 13, 2022. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Pat Corey. Board members present were Matt Metzger, Maurie Denney and Dave Mecklenburg. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Zoo Director Neil Dale, McAllister Recreation Center Manager Chad Aldridge, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Security Director Kurt Wolf, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the May 16, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $140,950.61, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $53,174.94 for a total of $194,125.55 were approved. Superintendent’s Report  Marketing Manager Haville reported that the first Art in the Park was held on June 7. The theme was “Baseball Night” and had over 650 in attendance. The next Art in the Park, “Dance Night” on June 21, will also be held at Columbian Park from 6pm – 8:30pm. There will be a variety of dance groups performing on the stage, a free craft for children, art vendors and food trucks. Kid’s Fishing Day will be at Munger Park on June 18 from 9am-12pm. This is a joint effort with the Parks, Dept. of Natural Resources and the Breakfast Optimist Club. There will be free gear and lunch. The 20th Anniversary of the Zoo Run Run is back from being virtual after two years. It will be held Saturday, July 16 with the route running through the Zoo. The America concert ticket sales number over two thousand with $29 tickets still available.  Maintenance Manager Perry provided an update on his area. This year all positions are filled with 18 seasonal staff and 2 staff for Loeb Stadium and 4 weekend positions filled. There are twenty-three areas requiring Spring work and opening for the season. The department also began seasonal picnic table transportation. Mr. Perry further detailed work on funbrellas at Castaway Bay, an extension to the Cove concession area, and work on the playground equipment at Murdock Park.  Superintendent Laufman provided a project update for the Columbian Park Restrooms. There was an issue with the bathroom partitions. New parts are Park Board Minutes 6/13/2022 Page 1 scheduled to arrive today, slated for install tomorrow. A couple of trees have been removed for the sidewalk installation. Rough grading around the outside of the building and top coat and restriping will be done in-house.  Director of Operations Miner discussed the Cat Park All-Inclusive Field. The black base layer infield of the Pour in Place material is down. The green outfield will be poured next week. Completion date will need to be pushed back. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony after completion.  Director of Operations Miner also provided an update on aquatics. Attendance so far at the Cove is 11,240 with revenue of $119,000. The attendance number is slightly lower than 2019 while revenue is higher. There are sixteen private events scheduled. Both Castaway Bay and Vinton numbers are similar to 2019 numbers. We have 85 lifeguards currently which will provide functional operation at all three pools. The closure at Vinton on Sunday was attributable to the high number of lifeguards and their family members with graduation ceremonies at local high schools. Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, Resolution 22-01 Declaration of Surplus and Transfer was approved (See Attachment A) Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, Declaration of Surplus property was approved (See Attachment B).
