REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 21 November 2022 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, November 21, 2022. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Pat Corey. Board members present were Matt Metzger, Maurie Denney and Dave Mecklenburg. Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Director of Maintenance Mike Perry, Safety and Security Director Kurt Wolf, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Marketing and Events Coordinator Ashley Wulff and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Guests present for the meeting were Brad Fennel, Stephen Preischel, Gene Kroeschen, Eileen Hession Weiss and Larry Rose. Upon motion by Mr. Denney, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the October 17, 2022 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Metzger seconded by Mr. Denney, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $126,013.08 and Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $12,816.55 and Beautification fund claims in the amount of $550.00, for a total of $139,676.55 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Lafayette Girls Softball, representative Brad Fennell shared the progression of registration numbers since the 2020 season. Spring participants went from 270 in 2020 to 280 in 2022. Fall season participation numbered 170 in 2021 and 177 in 2022. With two fields available due to fall maintenance that would be about the maximum. Mr. Fennell discussed visiting local elementary schools to increase participation. A conversation ensued regarding ideal capacity and ways to get information out through schools and ideal number of teams. • Wabash Disc Golf Club Vice-President Steve Preischel came before the board to share details of their successful season. See attachment C. Disc golf’s popularity increased significantly during the pandemic because it allowed for social distancing. It is also low cost and appeals to all ages. Mr. Preischel also detailed investment in new equipment, tee pads and signage including a brush cutter acquired through a grant to assist in mowing at McAllister Park. • Tree Lafayette representative Larry Rose provided details on the beneficial partnership between the Parks department and Tree Lafayette. His group donated over 2000 volunteer hours through digging holes, watering and pruning trees and many other activities. Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, Park Meeting Dates for 2023 were approved with a scrivener error change. (See Attachment A).
